Boston Blue Trailer: Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan Takes His Reputation of ‘Getting Things Done’ to a New City md20

The ‘Blue Bloods’ spinoff premieres Friday, Oct. 17, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS

Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan is back on the case, just with a different law-enforcement family by his side this time around.

PEOPLE is exclusively debuting the trailer for Boston Blue, CBS’ forthcoming Blue Bloods spinoff, which offers no shortage of action, suspense and familial ties beyond the Reagan name.

The series relocates its main character from New York City to Boston and introduces him to a new pal, Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), as well as her police-superintendent sister, rookie-cop brother and district-attorney mom — a.k.a. “one big happy, kind of confusing family,” as Lena puts it.

The trailer kicks off with both Danny and Lena chasing after an apparent suspect, before Lena tells the New York City cop that he “has a reputation.”

“Yeah, for getting things done,” he quips.

After the friendly banter, Lena reveals who is who in her family. There’s her officer Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner), superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson) and matriarch DA Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben). The family is rounded out by Baptist pastor Reverend Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson). It’s a blended law-enforcement family, indeed, and one that Danny fits right in with.

“But hey, family is family,” Danny says.

The trailer sees Danny and Lena slowly forming a bond as partners by circumstance, with Danny even joining the Silver crew for a family dinner in the midst of it all — something he’s all too familiar with given his signature Reagan dinnertime chats in Blue Bloods.

“He’s stubborn, he’s set in his ways, we’ve stepped on each other’s toes,” Lena says of Danny. “It would be a problem if he wasn’t right so often.”

Danny isn’t the only Reagan in Boston, either, as Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan also makes an appearance. Per a synopsis, Danny also “settles into his new city” as he “hopes to reconnect” with his younger son Sean (Mika Amonsen) as he jumpstarts a law enforcement career of his own in Boston.

And even in a new city, Danny isn’t entirely set on playing by the rules if it means ultimately cracking the case. “Sometimes dotting I’s and crossing T’s has to come second to right and wrong,” he says. “We have to get this right.”

The trailer wraps with a glimpse of another foot chase, Danny hilariously discovering that Lena ran track (and therefore can outrun him), and the family learning there’s more work to be done while at the dinner table.

“Ready to run it back, Brooklyn,” Lena asks Danny at the trailer’s conclusion.

“Try and stop me, Beantown,” he hits back.

The premiere episode of Boston Blue follows the NYPD detective as he and his Boston counterpart investigate a “deadly fire” at a tech company. “As they dig deeper, they uncover a complex web of secrets involving facial recognition technology, family ties and a search for justice that brings the Silver and Reagan families closer together,” a synopsis reads.

Boston Blue’s trailer comes a month after CBS’ last teaser for the series, which showed what went down when Danny found himself a gig at the Boston Police Department with Lena by his side as his new partner.

In March, Wahlberg, 56, wrote on Instagram that he was “so excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome” fans to the series.
