Speaking with Screen Rant about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1, which is set to premiere on January 18, 2026, showrunner Ira Parker shared some interesting information regarding characters who could return from the original show. When asked about Maester Aemon, Parker replied with the following:
SR: We know that there are some Game of Thrones characters that we’re familiar with from the original series that are alive during this time. Master Aemon comes to mind. Is there anything you can tell us about any familiar faces possibly popping up in Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?
Ira Parker: This first one, I think you’re gonna hear some names. I’m sure you’re gonna see faces. Yes, there are plans for faces as we move forward, hopefully, as we move forward.
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Will Seemingly Include Game Of Thrones’ Maester Aemon
Ira Parker’s comment is somewhat vague, but it also seems to suggest Aemon Targaryen, the future maester of Castle Black, will be mentioned in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Aemon shares some of his backstory in Game of Thrones, but for those who need a refresher, he was a Targaryen prince who became a maester and later passed on the Iron Throne.
Maester Aemon’s A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Return Perfectly Follows Up His GOT Death Scene
Aemon’s dying words in Game of Thrones, one of the show’s most beautiful, tender original scenes, are of him talking to Egg about a dream. Egg (Aemon’s brother, also known as Prince Aegon Targaryen) is one of the lead characters in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
In the new series, we’ll finally go back to the time Aemon reminisced about before his death, hearing his name and possibly even seeing him in future seasons. This will surely be a treat for fans, and he’s not the only Game of Thrones character who could appear.
Is Maester Aemon In The Dunk & Egg Books?
Given that the show’s seasons will consist of six episodes, it’s certainly possible that supplementary material will be added to the show, such as characters who aren’t present in the books. This could raise red flags for book readers, but it’s just the nature of adaptations, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will need to pad out its time.
