Chicago P.D. Gives Torres a Dangerous New Romance — But Is She Healing Him or Hurting Him? md18

This past Wednesday’s Chicago P.D. was not for the squeamish: The episode found Torres still spiraling and struggling with his faith. But instead of seeking healthy solutions for his troubles — where would the drama be in that? — Torres pressed his finger into a newly stitched-up wound on his arm. Literally.

During an investigation, Torres and Burgess questioned a woman named Jimena Sanz (played by Supernatural’s Yadira Guevara-Prip), who later ran into Torres at a bar after the case did not go as he hoped it would and his neighbor was murdered. As a tattoo and piercing artist, Jimena recognized that Torres had messed with his wound. “Makes you feel better, doesn’t it? The pain,” she remarked.

Torres revealed that he used to pray when things got difficult, but that was no longer working. “It’s not the pain that helps, it’s just…” he trailed off, to which Jimena correctly surmised, “It’s the release of it.”

“I know it’s not going to take it away. I just want to feel better,” Torres explained.

Jimena then pulled Torres into a hallway and asked if he trusted her. After Torres nodded, she pressed her sharp fingernail into his wound and kissed him passionately, and let’s just say, Torres was very into it.

Looking at Torres’ new love interest and Atwater’s upcoming new gal, “what those romances represent to these men is really interesting to me,” showrunner Gwen Sigan tells Soaps.com. For Torres, in particular, “his storyline is so much about his crisis of faith, and he really feels lost and feels like a lot of life doesn’t make sense in the way that it used to. He’s having doubt, and his religion feels a bit shaky.”

In this past week’s episode, “we see that journey for him, and we see him trying to feel better” in troubling fashion, “and one of those ways is through [Jimena],” Sigan says.

The newcomer could be considered a bad influence, based on how she indulged Torres’ worst behavior, but Jimena’s presence will also give viewers insight into the closed-up officer. “It’s a really interesting throughline for him in an emotional sort of relationship that helps us get to understand him a bit more,” Sigan previews.
