Theresa Nist is offering her perspective.
After her ex Gerry Turner said he felt “trapped” leading up to their televised wedding on The Golden Bachelor, the 72-year-old shared her reaction to his comments, explaining that she wouldn’t have walked down the aisle if she’d known that was where he stood emotionally.
“It makes me very sad to think that he felt empty and trapped,” Theresa told Us Weekly in an Oct. 13 statement. “I wish he had said something and just ended it.”
And while she wished she had known how Gerry, 74, felt sooner, the Bachelor Nation alum is ultimately just glad to have some insight into where he stood at the time.
“At least now I understand why he was so hurtful to me so many times,” she continued. “And I will say this. Those in glass houses should not throw stones.”
Theresa—who split from Gerry in April 2024, three months after they tied the knot—added, “I do wish him all the best.”
In his forthcoming memoir The Golden Years, set to be released Nov. 4, Gerry wrote that he told second runner-up Faith Martin days before his January 2024 wedding to Nist that he felt “trapped” in their relationship, according to Us Weekly. However, he recalled still going through with their marriage because he “felt like he was doing the right thing.”
However, Gerry doesn’t believe that Theresa was the only one responsible for the problems in their relationship.
“I was a bit naive; I was a bad listener,” he told Us Weekly in an interview published Oct. 13. “I didn’t probe well enough, and that’s both for my sake and for Theresa’s. Had I been better at some of those areas, maybe there would have been a different end.”
And in the end, he still doesn’t regret any part of their love story. After all, everything that happened wound up bringing him to his fiancée Lana Sutton, who he confirmed his engagement to in October.
“In the big picture, I’m happy that it all happened the way it did,” Gerry said, “because it got me to where I am.”
