CBS pulls the plug on ‘S.W.A.T.’ after multiple renewals and cancellations

After being on the air for eight seasons, already canceled twice and renewed twice “S.W.A.T” finally ran out of lives. The hit series has been officially canceled by CBS.

The news comes amidst CBS canceling both “FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International”, earlier this week.

CBS initially canceled the show after six seasons, back in May 2023, not even three days later, the network changed its mind and renewed the series for a seventh and what was supposed to be the last season.

Network executives renewed “S.W.A.T.” again by April 2024, halfway through the season.

This season is averaging 4.9 million total viewers, which is about 20% fewer viewers than Season 7. Ranking last in total audience out of CBS’s other 14 dramas.

“It’s heartbreaking news, primarily because it’s been such an immense pleasure working with this cast and crew to put out a show that we’ve always been proud of,” executive producer and showrunner Andrew Dettmann said.

Adding, “They are truly an extraordinary group of people who have all worked so hard and have been so dedicated for all these eight seasons, overcoming countless challenges. I can’t give them enough credit. I feel so privileged to have been a part of the S.W.A.T. family.”

The show follows LAPD SWAT Sgt. Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, played by Shemar Moore and his highly skilled team in the Los Angeles area.

“We are canceled again,” Moore said in a video posted to Instagram Friday. “It sucks. It’s sad.”

“Uncanceled twice, two years in a row. Now I don’t know my history, but how many shows get to say that? I’m going to say none. Or we’re one of the none. We did that and we are so proud.”

“S.W.A.T.” season 8 is on its 14th episode, with a total of 22 episodes.
