9-1-1’s Jennifer Love Hewitt Hints at Dream Crossover with ABC’s High-Rated Detective Series

If 9-1-1 star Jennifer Love Hewitt could choose the next show for a crossover, she’s already got one in mind — and it’s one of ABC’s newest hits. Crossover episodes aren’t new territory for the long-running procedural. The 9-1-1 universe previously crossed paths with 9-1-1: Lone Star during its time on Fox, and Angela Bassett’s Athena even made a guest appearance on Doctor Odyssey.

Now, with 9-1-1 firmly settled at ABC, Hewitt is ready to see more crossovers happen — and she knows exactly where she wants Maddie Han to show up next. In a recent interview with Awards Buzz, the actress revealed her dream crossover would be with ABC’s breakout crime dramedy High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson.

“I am obsessed with the show High Potential,” Hewitt shared. “She’s [Kaitlin Olson’s Morgan] always referencing dispatch — they’re in L.A. — and I’m like, ‘She has got to come to the dispatch center, or I have to go to her.’ Or maybe both! One of their episodes could end with her coming to me, and then I show up in their next episode. I just need to work with that show. I want to be on that show.”

With both shows set in Los Angeles and airing on the same network, Hewitt’s idea doesn’t sound far-fetched — and fans would likely be thrilled to see Maddie and Morgan team up, especially given the smart, sharp tone High Potential has already become known for.

What Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Comments Could Mean for 9-1-1 Season 9
An Exciting Crossover With High Potential Could Be on the Horizon

Jennifer Love Hewitt’s hopes for a crossover between 9-1-1 and ABC’s High Potential might become a reality during the 2025–2026 TV season. The logistics for such a collaboration are simpler than usual since both shows air on the same network.

ABC already proved this is possible last season with a small crossover between 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey, when Athena (Angela Bassett) guest-starred on Doctor Odyssey. Hewitt envisions something similar: her character Maddie Han, a 9-1-1 dispatcher, teaming up with Kaitlin Olson’s Morgan on High Potential.

It doesn’t have to be a full-scale crossover involving entire casts like NBC’s One Chicago universe. Instead, Maddie could simply appear in an episode or two of High Potential’s second season to assist on a case, or vice versa.

This kind of crossover would not only excite fans but also strengthen the shared world ABC is building with these two hit procedurals.

Our Take on a Potential 9-1-1 & High Potential Crossover
How Both Shows Could Gain From Teaming Up

ABC’s procedural hits 9-1-1 and High Potential are both thriving — the former entering its ninth season, the latter gearing up for a highly anticipated second. Given their shared success, it makes perfect sense for ABC to explore Jennifer Love Hewitt’s idea of a crossover between the two. 9-1-1 season 9 premieres Thursday, October 9 at 8 PM ET, while High Potential season 2 debuts Tuesday, September 16 at 10 PM ET on ABC.

A crossover would be a win-win, introducing fans of one show to the other and leveraging the fact that both are set in Los Angeles, air on the same network, and follow similar procedural formats. Now it’s just a matter of convincing Ryan Murphy — here’s hoping Hewitt can make that pitch!
