Ross Geller has never been one of my favorite Friends characters, but there’s a specific Season 3 episode that actually made me feel sorry for him. More than twenty years after its finale, Friends remains one of the most iconic sitcoms ever, loved for its relatable storylines, memorable guest stars, and incredible cast. Played by David Schwimmer — who also directed several episodes — Ross is the group’s most serious and intellectual member, known for plenty of funny yet often questionable moments.
While Ross is central to the series, his flaws are much clearer today — from his indecisiveness and arrogance to the toxicity in his relationship with Rachel. His treatment of her, in particular, has drawn plenty of criticism over the years. Despite all that, I can’t help but feel a bit of sympathy for him in one unforgettable episode from Season 3.
Everyone’s Treatment of Ross in Friends’ “The One Where No One’s Ready” Is Seriously Unfair
They Completely Ignore How Important the Event Is for Him

In Season 3, Episode 2, “The One Where No One’s Ready,” Ross is anxious about giving a major speech at a museum convention and just wants everyone ready on time. While Phoebe shows up dressed and prepared, the rest of the group is too distracted—Chandler and Joey argue endlessly over a chair, Monica spirals after hearing a voicemail from her ex, Richard, and Rachel can’t decide what to wear. As time runs out, Ross’ frustration grows understandably worse.
What makes it all the more irritating is that Ross isn’t asking for much—he simply wants his friends to respect his big night and show up on time.
While the episode’s chaos is undeniably funny, it’s also frustrating to watch how dismissive everyone is of Ross. His nerves about the speech are obvious from the start, yet his friends ignore him completely, making his stress even worse. Given how much this event means to him, it’s hard not to sympathize when Ross finally loses his cool.
Even With Ross Being Treated Terribly, “The One Where No One’s Ready” Remains Hilarious
It’s Rightfully Ranked Among the Best Friends Episodes Ever.

Even though Ross gets treated unfairly throughout the episode, “The One Where No One’s Ready” is still considered one of Friends’ all-time greats. The episode unfolds in real time and takes place almost entirely in Monica and Rachel’s apartment, creating a unique sense of chaos and urgency.
It’s packed with unforgettable comedic moments — from Joey putting on all of Chandler’s clothes during their argument to Monica obsessing over a voicemail from Richard. The episode also gave birth to the now-famous phrase “going commando,” proving just how iconic this half-hour of TV truly is.
