Torrey DeVitto has been shipping Chicago Med’s Dr. Natalie Manning and Dr. Will Halstead for years — but will her return to the NBC show finally give the couple their happily ever after?
“I never really thought Natalie and Will got what they deserved and what the fans deserve to see for them,” DeVitto, 41, confessed to Us Weekly exclusively on Friday, October 10.
The actress, however, teased that her Chicago Med cameo on the Wednesday, October 15, episode will potentially remedy that situation.
“I do feel people will be satiated this time around,” DeVitto said, playing coy about whether Natalie and Will (Nick Gehlfuss) will get their “happy ending” years after they actors both left the series.
DeVitto and Gehlfuss, 40, began playing doctors Natalie and Will, respectively, during season 1 of Chicago Med.
The TV couple got engaged ahead of season 4 but called off their relationship later that season after a failed wedding attempt. DeVitto exited the series in 2021 after seven seasons on the show. Gehlfuss, meanwhile, departed Med during the season 8 finale, which aired in 2023.
During the episode, fans saw Will fly to Seattle where he reunited with Natalie and her son, Owen (Frankie DeMaio), from her first marriage.
The heartwarming moment hinted that Will and Natalie were back together, which was confirmed during the Wednesday, October 8, episode of the show after Will returned to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center hospital during a boys’ trip to Chicago with Owen. (Will also revealed Natalie is pregnant with the couple’s first baby.)

At the end of the episode, Owen got shot by a woman trying to get drugs that were being transported by a teenage mule who was hospitalized. As the credits rolled, Natalie received a phone call back in Seattle, revealing she too would be coming back to Chicago to tend to her son.
“It is definitely not lacking in drama and trauma, and, you know, lots of emotion,” DeVitto told Us of her intense guest starring role. “It’s just what every Med fan loves to see.”
While DeVitto hinted that Natalie’s comeback won’t be without issues, she said her reunion with Gehlfuss was everything she hoped for and more.
“I was actually afraid. I was like, ‘Have we become such good friends that it’s going to be hard for us to get into these character[s] again?’” she confessed. “But it was honestly like second nature. We just slipped right back into it. And it was so lovely being on set with him. I love working with Nick.”
DeVitto wouldn’t reveal how the episode plays out, but she did say that fans of Natalie and Will’s “crazy, tumultuous” love story will be content.
“I always held that candle for them,” she said of her own dream scenario. “I always wanted them to be end game and like to find their way together.”
Chicago Med airs on NBC Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
