Jeremy Clarkson’s girlfriend Lisa Hogan has admitted she was “wary” about love before surviving a harrowing near-death experience
Jeremy Clarkson’s girlfriend Lisa Hogan revealed she was “wary” about finding love before she survived a terrifying plane crash aged just 25. Lisa, now 51, was flying to London from Palma, Spain, to film scenes for the 1997 John Cleese film, Fierce Creatures.
The aircraft was landing at RAF Northolt when it “ran out” of runway and crashed through a fence onto a busy dual carriageway. The plane hit a van and broke in two.
Lisa, the only passenger onboard, had been sitting in the middle of the plane before moving to sit near the back, which turned out to be “the only seat that wasn’t destroyed”.
Incredibly, Lisa walked out of the plane “without a scratch”. The pilot and co-pilot suffered severe cuts and the van driver was airlifted to hospital with non-serious injuries, reported The Irish Times at the time.
The traumatic accident has had a lasting impact on the Clarkson’s Farm star and changed her outlook on life.
In a new interview with the Irish Independent, the mother-of-three said: “My father died when I was 14, so I was very wary of falling in love with someone because they could die.
“But after the crash, I realised I could be the one to die through an accident, so I shouldn’t waste time.”
Lisa was married to Baron Steven Bentinck, but they split in 2011 after 30 years together. They share three children: Wolfe, Alice and Lizzy.
The former model was later linked to Canadian businessman Craig Cohan, Tony O’Reilly’s son Gavin and jockey Roger Weatherby.
In 2017, she met Jeremy Clarkson through a mutual friend and they have been together ever since.
Opening up about why their relationship is a success, Lisa continued to the aforementioned publication: “We both have differences of opinions that we are really happy discussing in a very easy way.
“I just think spending time with someone who interests you and makes you laugh is important at my stage in life.”
After seven years together, fans have speculated whether Jeremy will pop the question.
In an episode of Clarkson’s Farm series three, Lisa joked that she was hoping for an engagement ring when the 64-year-old took her out into the fields at Diddly Squat Farm saying: “I’ve got a big surprise for you.”
Lisa replied: “Ah, is it a proposal? Every time you say you’ve got a surprise I think ‘he’s going to propose’. Every time.”
Jeremy laughed and instead took her to the site of a tree he and Kaleb had put back up after it fell down.
Addressing whether she would like a proposal, Lisa insists that it is all in jest.
She added to the Independent: “I like a good wind-up with Jeremy, so it’s all teasing and it’s all in good spirit and I really don’t mind any of that.”
