An actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is joining Boston Blue as a mysterious character who enters Sean’s life. Blue Bloods went off the air last year after 14 seasons. The franchise lives on via the spinoff Boston Blue, which centers on Donnie Wahlberg’s character Danny Reagan from the original series.

Now another noteworthy actor is stopping by Boston Blue. According to TVLineDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Xochitl Gomez has been cast in a recurring role, with her first episode airing Friday, November 21.

Gomez’s character is a “quick-witted” and “charming” woman named Penny who has a “mysterious past” and whose storyline intertwines with none other than Sean.

Boston Blue episode 6 will also see the return of Ramirez as Baez. While Danny and Lena look into a home invader, Sean ends up in a “budding romance” with “unexpected complications.” While not confirmed, it appears that Gomez’s character Penny will be romantically linked with Sean.

Boston Blue stars Wahlberg, Sonequa Martin-Green, Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben, Marcus Scribner and Mika Amonsen.

The character of Sean was originally played by Andrew Terraciano on Blue Bloods, but the role was recast for Boston Blue.

Gomez’s star power skyrocketed after playing America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

While that’s been her one and only appearance in the MCU so far, it’s possible she could return for Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, or Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. The actor has played coy so far about her MCU future.

After Doctor Strange, Gomez joined the cast of Dancing with the Stars season 32 and won with pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy. She competed against stars like Jason Mraz, Ariana Madix, Alyson Hannigan, Barry Williams, Mira Sorvino, Adrian Peterson and Jamie Lynn Spears.

Gomez has also appeared in Raven’s HomeYou’re the Worst and The Baby-Sitters Club, and will voice a character in the upcoming animated film The Cat in the Hat, which is in theaters on November 6, 2026.

Now she will play a major role on Boston Blue starting this month. It’s unknown at this time how many episodes she’ll appear in during the police procedural’s inaugural season. Fans will have to tune in to find out the revelations about her character’s mysterious past and how her connection with Sean develops across the season.
