While Colter was still set with his legal council Reenie Green (Finoa Rene) and Bobby’s replacement, his cousin Randy (Chris Lee), the majority of viewers were confused on where Teddi’s absence left Velma, and why Bobby had disappeared. Throughout Tracker season 1, viewers had gotten to know and started to enjoy the camaraderie between Colter and his team, despite their distance.
Moving into Tracker season 3, the series was well aware that it had a fair bit of work to do in order to address the confusion for viewers that began during its last season. While many were content with simply seeing Colter and his brother Russell Shaw (Jensen Ackles) back together in the premiere, viewers needed an understanding of the team’s new status quo quickly.
Bobby Exley’s Tracker Exit Was Explained By His Cousin, Randy
He Left For A New Job

Tracker made quick work of bringing viewers up to speed with Colter’s team’s new normal, letting Randy and Reenie have the chance to discuss Bobby’s exit early in the episode. Randy, who took over for Bobby during Tracker season 2 much to viewer confusion, explained that his cousin had taken a new job elsewhere and is doing well for himself.
Explaining that Bobby is working with a startup now as an encryption specialist, Randy explained that his cousin is “bringing home the bacon” with his salary and stock options form the new job. While Randy and Reenie move on quickly, viewers got the chance to get some closure when it comes to Bobby’s character, finally getting the answers they’ve been looking for about his whereabouts.
Tracker Had Reenie Unpack Velma Bruin’s Decision To Be With Teddi
She Left For Her Marriage With Teddi

After addressing Bobby’s exit, Reenie went into more logistics when it came to where Velma had gone after Tracker season 2. Sharing that Velma had left the practice to “save her marriage,” Reenie made it clear that the choice wasn’t something she’d taken lightly. Upon Randy asking about Velma’s return, Reenie left the door open, but was purposefully unclear about whether she’d be back.
Keeping Bobby’s Tracker Exit Light Was Refreshing, While Velma’s Felt Darker
Both Explanations Were Quick & Understandable

Tracker season 3 got off to a great start with a completely clear delivery of information about Bobby and Velma’s exits from the show. While some viewers were unhappy to see the cast members moving on, others simply wanted to know what was happening to be able to move ahead. Bobby’s clean exit was a light, refreshing moment, while Velma’s was a bit darker.
While it’s clear that Bobby isn’t likely to return to Tracker, knowing that he’s moved ahead with his life in a lucrative, positive way was a satisfying explanation. As for Velma’s exit, things seemed dark and somewhat unfinished, which wasn’t easy to hear. Ultimately, Velma’s difficult exit from Tracker made sense, but was less fulfilling than the explanation behind Bobby’s departure.
