The atmosphere on the set of 9-1-1 is usually tight and professional, but a new ‘tell-all’ book by a disgruntled former crew member claims that there was a long-running, secret standoff between the production team and Aisha Hinds (Hen Wilson) regarding one crucial piece of equipment: The Ambulance.

The book, “Under the Siren: Secrets of the 118,” alleges that Hinds, who plays the skilled paramedic/firefighter, quietly and consistently refused to drive the massive LAFD ambulance in any scene that required complex maneuvers or high speed.
The crew member claims Hinds only agreed to drive it for stationary close-ups or simple forward rolls onto the scene. For any high-action sequence, the production was forced to rely on a rarely-seen body double, costing the show thousands in extra scheduling and insurance fees.
The drama reportedly peaked during the filming of a Season 6 multi-car pileup episode. The director insisted Hinds drive the ambulance into a precise stop near the ‘crash site’ for continuity.
Hinds is claimed to have shut down production for half a day, arguing that her character’s primary skill is medicine, not stunt driving, and that the risk to her and the equipment was too high.
The standoff was eventually resolved when the director agreed to use a wide shot with the double, only cutting back to Hinds after the ambulance was safely parked.
This alleged friction highlights the subtle tension between dramatic realism and actor safety on such an intense set. Fans are now watching old episodes closely, trying to spot the body double during every high-speed chase!
