Tracker’s Velma Replacement May Have Quietly Set Up Colter Shaw’s Next Big Twist

Back at Reenie’s office in Denver, Melanie Day continues to impress the legal eagle, covering for Reenie when she’s running late for a meeting. Randy has made his time in Denver long-term as Reenie continues to struggle with her near-death experience last season.

Tracker’s Velma Replacement Suggests Code Words for Reenie

In last night’s episode of Tracker, Reenie was running late for a meeting with her client. Mel stands outside Reenie’s office, bouncing anxiously as she texts her boss, and the client grows impatient. After receiving no response from Reenie, Mel decides to go in and talk to the client. She offers him more coffee, and when that doesn’t go over, she insists that Reenie will arrive any minute with a very good reason for keeping him waiting. Just then, Reenie strolls in with an air of confidence.

While going over the updated contract, which her client was meant to sign that morning, she discovered that the other party had snuck in a non-compete clause. It would prevent her client from working for a competitor for at least three years after parting ways. Reenie advises her client to push back and shop around his talents to other companies. Everything worked out in the end, in no small part because Mel covered for Reenie and stalled the client from leaving.

After the close call, Mel suggests a system of code words for them to use. Secret passwords that only they know to communicate different messages. Mel’s examples include when Reenie wants to get off a phone call or if she needs Mel to distract a client. They could discreetly signal each other using specific words for each scenario. With Tracker‘s economical storytelling, these code words will likely come into play down the line and maybe even raise the stakes of certain cases.

Sunday’s episode of Justin Hartley’s Tracker addressed who will be Colter’s handlers now that Velma and Teddi are gone.

If Mel and Reenie assign code words to more dangerous situations, like a panic phrase, it could set up a twist for Colter. If one of them were in danger, they could use codes to pass information secretly. When the unsolved murder of Mel’s mother comes into play, the motive behind the death could be personal. If they poke that bear, it could put Mel in danger, and the code words could come in handy if she’s able to send them short and seemingly innocuous messages.

In Colter’s upcoming storyline, where he finds himself on the wrong side of the authorities, Reenie and Mel could use code words to communicate about Colter. They might also be able to pass him information, even if they’re under surveillance from the police. Using the secret lexicon would make their conversation relatively private if anyone should be eavesdropping.

Reenie May Not Be Coping With Her Trauma From Tracker Season 2

In last week’s Tracker, where Colter fails a job for the first time, Reenie arrived at work late, hungover, and in the same clothes she wore the day before. The week before, Reenie was more openly recovering from a night of partying. It was Halloween, and she’d won a costume contest, so it wasn’t as alarming as doing it on a regular weekday. This week, Reenie was late, but she walked in fired up about her job. There was no explanation for her tardiness, but she didn’t appear to be suffering from the aftereffects of drinking an excessive amount of alcohol.

In the two-part premiere episode, she seemed to be coping okay with what had happened, still dealing with it, but not in an unhealthy way. She confided in Russell about how it was a close call for her and her then-boyfriend, who was mortally injured during her abduction. Russell made a point of telling her that he was there for her if she ever needed to talk, but given his lifestyle, that may not always be within his control. Has Reenie unsuccessfully reached out to Russell, or is she choosing to drown her negative feelings in liquor?

Randy had kept a close eye on Reenie and noticed her concerning behavior. The tech genius brought her a sandwich when she was hungover on time. In this week’s episode, Randy informs Reenie that he’s taken a long-term lease for his apartment. Staying in Denver will allow Randy to be there for Reenie if she needs him. Reenie was overjoyed that Randy would be sticking around. Her insistence that he’d be staying in last week’s episode could have been a subtle cry for help, and Randy answered the call like a true friend.
