March 1 Will Be an Amazing Day for Yellowstone Fans md20

The Yellowstone franchise also includes a spinoff, The Dutton Ranch, focused on Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), as well as a new story starring Michelle Pfeiffer, The Madison. However, Y: Marshals has significant momentum, giving it a leg up as the Yellowstone property prepares for its premiere on network TV, a major franchise first.

While the release dates for other Yellowstone spinoffs remain elusive, the calendar is marked for the opening of Kayce Dutton’s show. Y: Marshals Season 1 will premiere on CBS on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 8 pm Eastern. The series will then air weekly episodes on Sunday nights, following the second half of Tracker Season 3, Justin Hartley’s survivalist series.

While it initially looked like The Dutton Ranch would premiere in November alongside Landman Season 2, Sheridan’s oil drama starring Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore, its release was pushed back to next year. While the series is expected in 2026, an official date hasn’t been set, whereas Kayce’s spinoff is on the horizon, adhering to network TV’s rigorous schedule.

Similarly, there’s no news about the opening of The Madison, though production for Season 2 of Pfeiffer’s series is officially underway. The series was seen filming in Bozeman for Season 2 in early November, though there’s been no official marketing or release date for Season 1 of The Madison to speak of. That said, Kayce’s series has a significant advantage.

Yellowstone Hasn’t Had A New Chapter Since Season 5 In December

It appears that Kayce Dutton’s spinoff will be the first new Yellowstone chapter since the original series ended with Season 5 in December 2024. While the franchise released the second season of its Prohibition-era prequel, 1923 Season 2, in February 2025, Y: Marshals would be the first Yellowstone property to continue John Dutton and his family’s modern story.

That said, while it looks like Y: Marshals will be the first Yellowstone spinoff to deliver any new developments regarding what’s next for the Dutton family and others in the fallout of John’s death, a February release date for either The Madison or The Dutton Ranch is possible. The franchise has traditionally dropped new seasons during that time.

Right now, all eyes are on Landman Season 2 regarding what’s new in the Sheridan verse. A new Yellowstone spinoff could ride on the coattails of Landman’s momentum, considering Paramount often uses one series to attract attention for another. For instance, 1923 Season 2’s release date was announced a few days before the second-to-last episode of Yellowstone Season 5.

With The Madison and Beth and Rip’s Yellowstone spinoff stories primed to drop, Y: Marshals may not ultimately be the first modern Yellowstone series to follow the original show. If it is, however, Kayce’s story will come to the foreground of the franchise, with John Dutton’s youngest son being the first to take over one of television’s most popular narratives.

What To Expect From Kayce Dutton’s Y: Marshals Spinoff

While there have only been brief first-look trailers for Kayce Dutton in Y: Marshals, there’s a plethora of available information about what to expect from the series, most notably which Yellowstone characters are returning. Kayce will start a new chapter as an elite US Marshal, but some key characters tied to Dutton will be absent in his upcoming story.

The most noteworthy detail is that Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica Dutton in Yellowstone, won’t be joining Kayce in Y: Marshals’ cast. Audiences can expect something significant to come between Kayce and Monica, especially since Brecken Merrill, who plays their son, Tate, is joining the series alongside his father, ruling out that Y: Marshals is simply excluding Kayce’s family.

While it could be that Monica and Kayce have finally decided to part ways after years of unrest in all five seasons of Yellowstone, it’s far more likely that Monica has died in the opening of Y: Marshals. Regardless of her fate, Y: Marshal’s premiere will have to contend with what happened to Monica, explaining why she’s not joining Kayce.

Yellowstone viewers should also expect a different feel in Y: Marshals. It is the franchise’s first procedural, and will take a more episodic approach, contrasting with its serialized counterparts. The program will also have a different showrunner, SEAL Team’s Spencer Hudnut, who has a history of portraying military drama but will doubtlessly bring a different tone to Yellowstone than Sheridan.
