It’s been a complicated year for Days of Our Lives character Stephanie Johnson played by Abigail Klein, as the legacy heroine navigates her evolving relationship with Alex (Robert Scott Wilson), and a career shift from publicist to secretly writing romance novels. Klein recently spoke about the storyline and teased what viewers can expect next.
During the November 8th, Days of Our Lives 60th anniversary celebration in Los Angeles, E! correspondent Will Marfuggi interviewed Klein on the red carpet about her experience on the long running daytime drama.
Klein, who joined the series in 2022, shared that her current story arc is one of her favorites. “I’ve had such good story lines,” she told Marfuggi. “Good family stuff, emotional stuff, but I think lately my favorite has been the one that’s airing now. My character Stephanie has just been unveiled as a closeted romance author.”
On-screen, Stephanie recently revealed that she is the author behind the romance novel, One Stormy Night, written under the pen name Anastasia Steele. The book was published through Titan Publishing, Alex Kiriakis’ company, and Stephanie’s identity was made public during the release of her second novel.
Klein said she immediately connected with the direction of the storyline. “When I first read those scripts, I thought the writers had bugged my house because that’s the type of genre that I love and that I read,” she joked. “So, I was like, ‘Oh, this is so close to home.’ So, that has been hilarious and so fun that that ended up being a story line.”
Klein added that Stephanie is “enjoying living as her true self” now that she doesn’t have to hide her true identity as an author.
Klein also teased that viewers can expect dramatic twists and turns ahead. “I will say Stephanie has some really high highs coming up and some really low lows.” The actress noted that she couldn’t reveal additional details.
