Chicago Fire star set to direct upcoming episode of CBS’s Blue Bloods spinoff Y01

It seems two worlds are about to collide, at least behind the scenes. Former Chicago Fire star Monica Raymund is putting her director’s hat on once again to direct an upcoming episode of CBS’s Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue.

As confirmed by CBS, Raymund has directed the upcoming seventh episode of Boston Blue season 1, set to air on Friday, December 5. The episode will bring about an unexpected role reversal for Danny and Lena, though details on what this role reversal will be are a bit unclear at the moment. The episode will also see Sarah facing a personal dilemma, Mae contending with political pressure, and Sean and Jonah’s routine case proving to be anything but routine.

The episode will mark Raymund’s first episode with the Blue Bloods franchise, but she’s no stranger to working behind the scenes as a director! Since leaving Chicago Fire, Raymund has directed a handful of hit series, including many from the Wolf Entertainment team.

Raymund’s directorial credits include episodes of Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter: Original Sins, FBI, Law & Order: Organized Crime, and Law & Order: SVU. Interestingly, Raymund has yet to return to the One Chicago franchise to direct an episode of any of the shows, something that has become a common trend for many of the actors on the series.

Just this season, Jesse Lee Soffer returned to Chicago PD to direct an episode of season 13, and he’s one of many former and current One Chicago stars who have stepped behind the camera to direct over the years. Given how many titles Raymund has directed, including episodes of FBI and two of the Law & Order shows, it’s surprising she’s somehow not directed an episode of Chicago Fire or one of its sister series.

This could be by design, though, as Raymund has had a pretty clean break with the One Chicago franchise since her exit.

Raymund played paramedic turned firefighter Gabriela Dawson across the first six seasons of the show before exiting as a series regular. She later returned for a pair of guest appearances, one in season 7 and one in season 8. Following her season 8 guest appearance in 2019, Raymund has not returned to the One Chicago franchise, though fans remain hopeful that she might one day pass through town again to give an update on what she’s been up to.
