Earlier in the year, it was announced that the Blue Bloods universe would be expanding, and with the original series concluding last December, fans have been long anticipating the next chapter of this story. Boston Blue, the exciting new spinoff executive produced by Brandon Sonnier, Brandon Margolis, Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed and Donnie Wahlberg, premiered back in October and stars both old faces that we got to know on Blue Bloods, as well as a handful of new faces we’ve loved getting to know so far. While most of these new faces are bringing to life new and original characters, one fresh face in particular is actually playing a character we’ve already been introduced to in the past—Danny Reagan’s son, Sean. Here, all about the cast shakeup everything we know so far about this new crew of characters.
What is ‘Boston Blue’ about?
This brand-new installment and continuation of the Blue Bloods story takes Donnie Wahlberg’s beloved character of Danny Reagan out of New York and into Boston, where he takes on a position with the Boston police department. While there, he teams up with Lena Silvers, whose family is of importance in the world of Boston law enforcement. Already a few episodes into the new season, fans are loving the high-stakes cases Danny and his team have gone up against so far.
“This show gives us a chance to create a whole new world, while giving Blue Bloods a pulse again,” Wahlberg told Country Living. “I immediately made it clear to them, ‘If you keep Danny Reagan alive, I have to keep other elements of the Blue Bloods world alive, and they were like, ‘We love it. Let’s go.’ There’s a perception the network didn’t like or care about Blue Bloods and the fact they’re making this show tells me that they did.”

Wahlberg reprises his role from the original series, and we’ve loved seeing him take on this next chapter so far! “Once I started to let go of Blue Bloods, I started to see the opportunity that Boston Blue was. That it’s really a chance for us to carry on the tradition and the legacy of the show,” Wahlberg told Fox News Digital. “And I know how important it is to the viewers because I share what Blue Bloods meant. It meant a lot to me as well. So I know there’s a lot of excitement and enthusiasm about it.”

Sonequa Martin-Green stars opposite Wahlberg in this series as Lena Silver, a detective from a prominent law enforcement family. You’ve likely already seen her shine in shows like Star Trek: Discovery and The Walking Dead, but the actress was thrilled to dive into this next chapter.
“I know that it’s going to provide something that people need. I think it’s going to be optimism and hope and family, and I think it’s going to be good for people. I really do,” the actress told Closer Weekly in May. “Blue Bloods was so good, and we love the Reagans so much, and for good reason and hopefully we’ll love this new family that we get to meet through Danny’s eyes and through his perspective, and I hope that the legacy continues and I’m so grateful.”
