Blue Bloods Comeback Alert: Why Tom Selleck’s Return Feels Inevitable Y01

A couple of updates inch Tom Selleck’s much-clamored return as Blue Bloods‘ Frank Reagan closer to reality. When it premiered in 2011, it became immediately clear Blue Bloods was not going to be a regular cop series. It put a family of public servants at the center of its narrative in a procedural storytelling format. Its success was also helped by Blue Bloods featuring a stacked cast, spearheaded by Selleck as the Reagan patriarch.

Fast-forward to the 2025-2026 TV season and nearly a year after Blue Bloods officially ended its run, its legacy lives on via its very first spinoff sequel, Boston Blue. It marks the return of Donnie Wahlberg as Danny, but this time, instead of policing the streets of New York, he is now based in Beantown — a move motivated by Sean’s near-death experience. So far, Erin is the only member of the clan who has physically appeared, but she is likely not going to be the last one.

Tom Selleck Signs With New Representation Indicating The Plan To Return To Acting

In an unexpected development, it made the rounds online that Selleck has signed with United Talent Agency, aka UTA, for representation. CAA previously represented the actor alongside Ziffren Brittenham LLP, N2N Entertainment, and Wolf-Kasteler Public Relationships. The latter three will remain involved with Selleck’s career moves despite the move to UTA. While actors changing representation isn’t rare, this move happened during Selleck’s acting hiatus, as he hasn’t returned to the screen since Blue Bloods ended in 2024.

This could mean that Selleck is getting ready to return to the industry, be it acting, directing, or any other work in Hollywood production. However, it’s safe to assume that seeing him back on the screen is the most exciting possibility for his comeback. This is especially the case if it means reprising his role as Blue Bloods‘ Frank.

Boston Blue’s Renewal Offers More Time For A Frank Reagan Appearance

Not long after news of Selleck hiring UTA for representation broke out, CBS announced a major update for the Blue Bloods franchise. Not even midway through its premiere year, Boston Blue has already been renewed for season 2. While this wasn’t surprising, considering how well-received the show has been from the jump, its early renewal is still a major vote of confidence for the cop show.

Aside from that, it also gives Wahlberg and his team more time to figure out a Frank Reagan cameo in Boston Blue. Anyone from the Reagan family making an appearance will definitely be welcomed by long-time fans of the CBS procedural, but there’s just something special about seeing Selleck again in the role. The spinoff has mentioned him a couple of times, so the next organic step is for him to appear.
