Some Chicago Med viewers have been rooting for Hannah Asher and Dean Archer’s relationship to turn romantic, but after season 11, episode 5, it’s clearer than ever that they’re better off as friends (and co-parents). The two characters have been linked for many seasons, as they have grown quite close over the years. However, that doesn’t mean Hannah and Archer should start dating.
That statement rings true even after Chicago Med season 11 confirmed that Hannah and Archer are having a baby. They got drunk one night and hooked up, resulting in Hannah’s pregnancy. Afterward, they agreed to co-parent. Hannah and Archer are close friends, after all, and he wouldn’t abandon her and their baby. Nevertheless, a romantic relationship shouldn’t even be an option for them.
Hannah & Archer Disagree Over How To Handle Her Pregnancy
The Tension Between The 2 Characters Is At An All-Time High
In Chicago Med season 11, episode 5, Archer accompanies Hannah on one of her checkup appointments. When the OB-GYN asks if they want to know the sex of the baby, Hannah explains that she wants it to be a surprise, while Archer suggests they have already had enough surprises. Still, Hannah wants to wait until the birth to know the baby’s sex.
Then, Hannah’s doctor informs the two Chicago Med characters that the fetus’ nuchal translucency is on the “high end of normal.” Archer points out that that might suggest the baby could have chromosomal or genetic abnormalities. However, the OB-GYN explains that Hannah’s blood work is normal and that she’s not worried about any abnormalities at this time.
Archer is evidently worried, though, and the doctor says they can perform an amniocentesis to learn more, but Hannah vehemently shuts that idea down. She knows what’s best (as she is an OB and it’s her body), and she believes an amniocentesis is “overkill.” Archer disagrees, resulting in some brewing tension between him and Hannah for the rest of the Chicago Med episode.
Then, Chicago Med season 11, episode 5 ends with Hannah and Archer fighting and on bad terms. Hannah accuses Archer of “analyzing” her. She tells him that they don’t have to do everything together and that he can find out the baby’s sex on his own if he really wants to. Hannah storms out, suggesting that she and Archer could use some space.
Chicago Med Season 11, Episode 5 Demonstrates Why Hannah & Archer Can’t Be A Couple
They Don’t Work Well Together

Hannah and Archer’s disagreements about how to handle her pregnancy in Chicago Med season 11, episode 5, prove that they wouldn’t work well together as a couple. If they are fighting this badly this early in the pregnancy, then it’s only bound to get worse as time goes on (and if they try dating). A romance would just complicate things more.
Hannah and Archer are struggling as single friends, trying to co-parent, as it is; imagine what it would be like if they actually got together in Chicago Med season 11 (or in a future season). Of course, this tension between them in the NBC medical drama TV series can be easily resolved. Hannah and Archer simply have to communicate more and better.
However, the ability to communicate should be the basis of any healthy relationship, and Hannah and Archer don’t have that. Truth be told, they have never been able to communicate well with one another. That must change because of the baby. But making amends as friends and co-parents is one thing; it’s another to then take their relationship to the next level.
Hannah and Archer can settle their fight and return to being friends who are having a baby together in the upcoming Chicago Med season 11 episodes. It’s difficult to imagine the show has a romance in store for Hannah and Archer anytime soon, though. After the events of episode 5, all the reasons why their relationship should stay platonic are evident.
How Hannah & Archer’s Conflict Will Affect Their Relationship In Season 11
They’re Still Having A Baby Together
In the wake of Hannah and Archer’s fight in Chicago Med season 11, episode 5, it’s clear that they have some issues to work through. Perhaps Hannah has another, unknown reason for being angry with Archer. While all his problems are laid out on the table (his stubborn nature and contrarian behavior are nothing new), she could have an underlying predicament.
Whatever the case, Hannah and Archer must address all their grievances with one another in the One Chicago TV show. If they don’t resolve their conflict, not only will they suffer, but their baby will, as well. Hannah and Archer’s drama will undoubtedly affect their dynamic, both at work and in their personal lives.
Ultimately, given that Hannah and Archer are struggling as friends, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about a romantic relationship happening anytime soon. That’s another predicament altogether (and one that isn’t worth the trouble). For now, Hannah and Archer must focus on how to move forward as co-parents for the sake of their baby in Chicago Med season 11.
