“I Nearly Walked Away”: Peg Munson Reveals Her Real First Impressions of Mel Owens md18

“The Golden Bachelor” season 2 saw former NFL player-turned-attorney Mel Owens handing out his final rose to retired Las Vegas firefighter and bomb tech Peg Munson. Instead of an engagement ring, Owens presented her with a promise ring, and she gladly accepted.

As Munson and Owens continue to go strong since the November finale, the two are opening up about their experience on the reality TV dating show like never before. In a recent interview with the “She’s All Bach” podcast, Munson shared her honest thoughts about Owens and why she almost walked away from the show.

Peg Munson Almost Walked Away From ‘The Golden Bachelor’

Peg Munson is reflecting on her “Golden Bachelor” journey, which ultimately had her falling head over heels for season 2’s lead, Mel Owens. However, while chatting with the “She’s All Bach” podcast, Munson revealed that she was hesitant about joining the show because of Owens’ controversial podcast comments.

“I wasn’t going to go [on the show] because of his podcast,” Munson began. “I’ve dated men, I’ve been out there dating, and I don’t want to date egotistical, arrogant, narcissistic men anymore.”

She continued, “After I heard the podcast, I was like, NFL, attorney, you know, he’s just one of those kinda guys. I was stomping around the house, I was kind of pissed off. I was like, Jeez, come on man, just get a nice guy that’s all I’m looking for.”

Munson admitted that she even discussed not going on the show altogether with her daughter. However, her daughter convinced her to try it out because “you’ve got to get to know a person before you make a judgment about them.”

Thankfully, Munson went through with “The Golden Bachelor,” staying true to her intentions. Over time, she realized that Owens shared the same mindset. The connection ultimately led her to the finale, where Owens gave her a promise ring.

Mel Owens Apologized for His Controversial Podcast Comments on ‘The Golden Bachelor’

The controversial podcast comments Munson referenced came from an interview Owens gave before his season even premiered. During a June appearance on the “In the Trenches” podcast, the 66 year old revealed that he had told Bachelor producers he preferred dating women between 45 and 60, adding that he could be “cutting” any woman older than that.

That wasn’t all. Owens also shared that while speaking to Bachelor producers, he made it clear that he preferred “fit” women and asked to “stay away from the artificial hips and wings.”

The women who appeared on his season ranged in age from 58 to 77. During the season premiere, Owens profusely apologized for his comments before his journey of finding love began.

“I messed up,” Owens shared. “I was wrong. I replay it in my head a lot. I have regrets and I’m sorry for all the things I said in the podcast. I know what a lot of people are thinking about me, but that’s not who I am.”

He even shared a sincere apology in front of the 23 women who were a part of his journey, some of whom made jokes about his comments during their limo entrances. The women accepted it and were ready to move forward.
