Beloved Prosecutor Passes Away: Bridget Moynahan, Star of Blue Bloods, Dies md20

Andrew Terraciano is sharing his thoughts on being recast in Boston Blue.

The Blue Bloods alum, who appeared as Danny Reagan’s son, Sean, on the CBS series from 2010 until its 2024 finale, wasn’t present in Boston Blue when the spinoff starring Donnie Wahlberg premiered on the network back in October. Instead, actor Mika Amonsen took over as the character.

Now, Terraciano, 22, has revealed that somebody called him the “day that I was graduating” to break the news. The actor celebrated his graduation from New York University in May.

“They had spoken to my mom and she called me [crying],” the actor told Us Weekly. “They were like, ‘They might be looking for a different Sean.’ Shortly after we got the news, Donnie called me. It was a really beautiful moment of getting to hear from an old friend but also somebody that you respect so much and have learned so much from.”

Homefront Frank launches an investigation after the Reagan family is harassed when protests against a controversial NYPD unit escalate. Also, Danny and Baez form an unlikely partnership with an informant in order to prevent a murder; Eddie lands in hot water after she defies a direct order; and conflict arises between Erin and the Dream Team when the D.A.s office strikes a deal with Bakers assailant, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Nov. 4

Terraciano added that the role was “beautiful” because “you’ll always remember every single line and every day that you had the opportunity to be that character.”

“It doesn’t mean for even a second that somebody else can’t go and do something beautiful with it,” he added. “I got the joy of playing Sean, and I got to send him off into the world. Now somebody else gets that joy. We’re both getting to show what we do and then send Sean off into the world.”

Terraciano now considers Wahlberg, who leads Boston Blue, as “friends and family first” when they catch up these days. He also told his former costar, 56, on the phone that he’ll “be there” if he ever needs him — “not just with Blue Bloods or Boston Blue but with anything in life.”

As for the outpouring of love after the recasting, Terraciano “appreciated” it. “It’s so meaningful to know that people love the character that I got to share in creating. I didn’t expect it to say the least,” he said.

In October, months after PEOPLE confirmed the casting news, a Boston Blue co-showrunner told Variety that the change made sense given the character’s arc. “We love Andrew and the work he did over the years on Blue Bloods. Really, it came down to we’re telling a new chapter in both of their lives,” Brandon Margolis told the outlet.

“It’s not just Sean who has joined the family business as it were and is turning over this new leaf, but it’s also now Danny Reagan is the father to a cop, which he’s never been before,” he continued, explaining there are “new storytelling lanes to explore” and it felt like “an organic opportunity to bring in a new performance with a new energy, to help dramatize that change.”

“It is the same character, it’s the same relationship, but it’s also completely different,” Margolis, 45, said. “We love what Mika has brought to Sean, this vulnerability, yet this desire to prove himself. It’s just been great to watch it come to life.”

Amonsen told Us Weekly in November that while there’s been some “negativity” surrounding the recasting, he’s still spotted fans “really enjoying the show and they love where it’s going in terms of Sean.”

“I really want to maintain Sean as close as I can in the ways that I do it out of respect for this character that everyone loves — but also the character Andrew built,” he said.

“When I booked the show, it all happened really quickly. It was within about a week’s time and I was really thrown into it quickly,” Amonsen explained. “I wanted to get a sense of who Sean was toward the end of the show. I really wanted to get a sense of his character at that point into adulthood and his relationship with Danny.”

Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. Episodes are available the following day to watch on-demand via Paramount+.
