Netflix’s new teaser for Bridgerton Season 4 has fans wondering if Benedict is the most oblivious Bridgerton sibling yet.
The newly released Bridgerton Season 4 teaser has fans buzzing, and collectively sighing at Benedict’s apparent obliviousness. The new clip introduces Sophie Baek in a dazzling masquerade ball sequence that feels straight out of the Cinderella story, with a fateful dropped glove on the stairs.
Yet, as stunning as the scene is, it raises one major question: how on earth does Benedict not recognize her? Fans are also raising the same question, arguing that even behind her delicate mask, enough of Sophie’s face is visible to make his future confusion about who the Lady in Silver is, baffling (Reddit).
The teaser makes it clear that the chemistry is instantaneous. But suspension of disbelief may be harder this season if Benedict truly can’t connect the dots, with fans suggesting that Benedict might just take the crown for densest sibling yet.
Luke Thompson Teases Battle Between Romance and Reality in Bridgerton Season 4
Luke Thompson teases that Bridgerton Season 4 will blur the line between fairytale fantasy and emotional truth. The upcoming season spotlights Benedict Bridgerton, the second son who has yet to find love and his place in society.
That changes when he encounters a mysterious Lady in Silver at Violet Bridgerton’s glittering masquerade ball, unaware that she is Sophie, a maid hiding behind her mask and her own unfulfilled dreams.
“The storyline is a bit of a twist on Cinderella. You remember being told those stories as a child — the magic and the romance of them,” Luke Thompson told Tudum. “It’s really exciting to have that weaved into the world that we know of Bridgerton … It’s such a great story, but it’s also, I hope, really relatable.”

Thompson further shared that the heart of Season 4 lies in its tension between fantasy and authenticity. “It’s the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale — the romance of it — and the actual reality of the world,” he said.
“In its best version, true love happens somewhere in the middle of that,” he shared, explaining that both the dreamlike romance and the grounded reality are equally true, and that genuine love exists somewhere between the two.
Yerin Ha Reflects on Sophie’s Name Change in Bridgerton
In Julia Quinn’s novels, Sophie’s full name is Sophie Beckett. However, the Netflix series changed it to Baek to reflect the casting choice of the show and to honor Yerin Ha’s Korean heritage.
In an interview with Elle, the actress revealed how the showrunners landed on Baek for Sophie’s last name. “Are there any Korean names that start with B?” Ha recalled showrunner Jess Brownell asking her early on in the show.
I was just super appreciative of her changing the last name so that it fits with my identity and my culture, and how I look.
“For some people, it might feel like a small thing, but for a production of that size to mold a character to me really empowered me,” Ha continued, emphasizing its significance. The thoughtful choice allowed Ha to bring authenticity and personal resonance to her role, enriching Sophie’s story on screen.
Don’t miss Sophie and Benedict’s journey in the upcoming Bridgerton Season 4.
Bridgerton Season 4 Part I will premiere on January 29 and Part II on February 26, 2026.
