Boston Blue turns up the pressure and delivers its most intense episode yet Y01

Boston Blue has taken Danny Reagan out of New York and onto the streets of Boston. However, that’s not the only change the Blue Bloods spinoff has made, as his son, Sean, was recast with a new actor in the role.

Andrew Terraciano played Sean Reagan across Blue Bloods‘ entire run. He appeared in almost 300 episodes between 2010 and 2024. When CBS greenlit the spinoff Boston Blue, Terraciano was not brought back in the role, with Mika Amonsen succeeding him. Despite the recast, Terraciano recently revealed to Us Weekly that he would jump at the chance to appear on Boston Blue, even if it means playing a new character.

“I said it to Donnie [Wahlberg] on the phone. If he says the word, I’ll be there. Not just with Blue Bloods or Boston Blue, but with anything in life,” Terraciano revealed to Us Weekly. The actor had previously addressed the recast earlier this month with the outlet, expressing his support for Amonsen taking over the role.

“I got the joy of playing Sean, and I got to send him off into the world. Now somebody else gets that joy. We’re both getting to show what we do and then send Sean off into the world,” the actor said at the time.

Brandon Margolis, an executive producer on Boston Blue, told Us Weekly that he is also open to getting Terraciano on the spinoff. “I love that idea,” he remarked. “It’s really clever, and I think it’s something Donnie would probably be into as well. Because he’s the one always trying to work in New Kids on the Block references.”

The executive producer added, “If the right opportunities are there, we never say no to a great idea.”

Boston Blue began development as a standalone series, but was reworked into a Blue Bloods spinoff at the request of CBS. The series focuses on the next chapters of both Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan and his son Sean. Due to an NYPD hiring freeze, Sean moves to Boston to become a patrol officer, with Danny taking a position with the BPD after a case involving his son occurs.

Danny is partnered with Sonequa Martin-Green’s Lena Silver, a rising star in the Boston Police Department. Just as Blue Bloods focused on a multi-generational family, so does Boston Blue. However, instead of the Reagans, it’s the Silvers. Lena’s grandfather is Reverend Peters, while her mother is Boston’s District Attorney Mae Silver. Ernie Hudson and Gloria Reuben portray those characters, while Maggie Lawson and Marcus Scribner portray Lena’s stepsister Sarah and half-brother Jonah, respectively.

If Terraciano does make an appearance on Boston Blue, he would become the fourth Blue Bloods alum to return. Besides Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Marisa Ramirez have reprised their respective roles from Blue Bloods as Erin Reagan and Maria Baez. As for former Blue Bloods lead star Tom Selleck, the verdict is still out on whether he will appear. However, Wahlberg revealed back in October that Selleck had been “very supportive” of the spinoff.

Boston Blue will go on a winter hiatus until February 2026 following the airing of its ninth episode, “Collateral Damage,” on CBS on Dec. 120
