TIM ALLEN RETURNS TO HOME IMPROVEMENT LOT: ‘WHERE IT ALL BEGAN’

Tim Allen is back at the lot that made him a star.

Last week, the HOME IMPROVEMENT actor took to X to share a photo of himself smiling with a placard of his original hit sitcom in the background. HOME IMPROVEMENT ran from 1991-1999.

“Shot the new pilot last Friday here on the Disney lot where it all began,” he captioned the photo.

It has been years since Allen filmed at the lot, previously for the show LAST MAN STANDING which ended in 2021.

MSN reported, “Though that show moved to Fox for its last three seasons and wrapped in 2021, it’s clear that the actor (who wants to see an ’emotional’ TOY STORY 5 plot) is proud of the work he did on his prior network for so many years. After shooting the pilot for his potential new series, SHIFTING GEARS, on the same lot recently, he shared a sweet picture on X of his reunion with the sitcom studio home that helped turn him into a megastar.”

Now in the works at the famous lot is his new show titled SHIFTING GEARS starring Allen as Matt. A description of the show describes the character as a “stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”

SHIFTING GEARS is from 20th Television and will be written and produced by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully. Executive producers include Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina. The sitcom is expected to release fall 2024.

Allen is also known for his role as Buzz Lightyear in the TOY STORY franchise and as Santa Claus in THE SANTA CLAUSE franchise. Yahoo reported, “Most recently the comedian starred in and executive produced Disney+ series THE SANTA CLAUSES, in which Allen reprised his role as Scott Calvin/Santa from THE SANTA CLAUSE movie trilogy. The second season, which launched in November 2023, follows Scott as he attempts to train his son to take over the ‘family business’ as Santa Claus.”

“SHIFTING GEARS centers on Matt (Allen), the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley ([Kat] Dennings) and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins,” a description of the show reads.

“So happy and honored to get to work on such an incredible show with such incredible people!!! This is just the beginning… can’t wait to get to work!!:),” he posted following the casting announcement.
