Reality star Monyetta Shaw has shared the uplifting news that her breast cancer is now in remission, a journey she describes as both challenging and life-changing. Diagnosed with stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma in November, Shaw underwent a lumpectomy followed by radiation, and now she is looking forward to a healthier future with her children.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Shaw reflected on the moment she received her diagnosis, calling it one of the “hardest and scariest moments” of her life. “Everything around me stopped. My heart dropped. I was afraid. I was angry. I was just numb,” she recalled through tears. Despite the fear and uncertainty, she quickly realized the importance of taking action and creating a plan for her treatment.
Initially, Shaw considered having a double mastectomy. “While doing all of the biopsies and MRIs I was first considering a double mastectomy,” she shared. “But after my genetic testing came back favorable, and after sitting in my reality for some time, I decided on the lumpectomy.” Her decision was guided by her doctors, her own research, and careful reflection on her health and quality of life.
Shaw emphasizes the importance of early detection and listening to one’s body. “Because I caught the cancer early, I will be here for my kids,” she said. “There’s nothing more important than getting checked often and early to protect your future. Our health is irreplaceable. I can’t thank my exceptional doctors and nurses enough. They are our heroes!”
The reality star hopes her story will inspire others to take action when something feels off with their health. “It’s so important for me to share this story because I hope to inspire others not to dismiss their gut feeling,” Shaw explained. “Our body speaks to us, and when it does, we have to listen. It can be a matter of life or death.” Her candidness and openness aim to encourage women to prioritize routine screenings and to trust their instincts when it comes to health concerns.
Shaw also spoke about the emotional rollercoaster she experienced during the process. Beyond the fear of the diagnosis itself, she faced the challenge of making decisions that could significantly impact her life. “I was weighing all my options and thinking about the future,” she said. “I wanted to make sure I was making the right choice for me and my family.”
Through the support of her medical team, family, and friends, Shaw navigated her treatment with courage and determination. Her successful recovery now serves as a testament to the power of early detection, effective treatment, and emotional resilience.
As she celebrates her remission, Shaw is using her platform to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourage women everywhere to prioritize their health. She stresses that paying attention to changes in the body, advocating for oneself, and seeking medical advice promptly can make all the difference.
“Praise God,” Shaw wrote, sharing her good news with fans. “I am so grateful to be here, healthy, and able to enjoy life with my kids. This experience has reminded me how precious our lives and health truly are.”
Monyetta Shaw’s journey from diagnosis to remission is a powerful reminder of the importance of vigilance, self-care, and hope. Her story stands as both an inspiration and a call to action for others to take their health seriously, listen to their bodies, and never underestimate the life-saving power of early detection.
