Dozens of dedicated physicians have graced Chicago Med throughout the years, and fans are always in for a treat when Dr. Justin Morris (Lee Jones) shows up.

While Dr. Morris isn’t weighing in on cases every episode, he’s a recurring character who has been assisting with the occasional patient since Season 7 of Chicago Med. As of Season 11 of Med, Morris remains a steadfast member of Gaffney’s passionate fleet, helping the Windy City unit during the midseason premiere (“Triple Threat”) after a blackout led to a hospital power outage. But it wasn’t the first time Jones raised the stakes as the elusive Dr. Justin Morris. Several Gaffney fan favorites have gone toe to toe with him amid emotionally charged cases.

Who is Dr. Justin Morris on Chicago Med?

Lee made his first appearance as Dr. Justin Morris in Season 7 of Chicago Med, introduced as a non-nonsense transplant surgeon at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Thanks to his niche expertise, Morris often appears during medical cases that demand complex surgical procedures and an unbiased mind, often holding a lot of weight in determining whether or not patients are eligible or viable for a transplant.

Chihards may remember in Season 9 of Chicago Med when Dr. Morris got into an argument with Dr. Crocket Marcel (Dominic Rains) over a young boy’s potential lung transplant, advising against the procedure due to low odds of survival. Dr. Morris’s practical and blunt approach to high-stakes cases often rubs his colleagues the wrong way, as he foregoes emotion to make these tough calls. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t come from a good place.

Dr. Morris made several appearances in Season 10 of Chicago Med. During one episode, Morris worked with Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell) to treat the daughter of a tech billionaire willing to move mountains to secure a lung transplant for his daughter with leukemia. Later that season, Morris teamed up with Dr. Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos) to navigate the complicated surgeries of conjoined twins.

Morris returned in Chicago Med‘s Season 11 midseason premiere (“Triple Threat”) after Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) was tasked with delivering a verdict on whether or not a patient would receive a heart after recently overdosing in a suicide attempt due to her lengthy wait for a transplant.

While Dr. Charles trusted that the patient’s mental deterioration stemmed from her terminal heart condition and that a transplant could lead to peace down the line, hospital protocol deemed the risk factors too great. Dr. Morris became the voice of protocol, highlighting the patients’ lack of eligibility to Dr. Charles, telling him that he refused to waste a perfectly good heart on an at-risk patient.
