Lady Whistledown Strikes Again in a New Bridgerton Season 4 First Look md18

The day draws nearer and nearer that fans will return to the Ton and get their next dose of a Bridgerton love story. Season 4 of the hit Netflix drama returns January 29 and today, Netflix has released a new photo from the upcoming season. In the photo, Golda Rosheuvel returns as Queen Charlotte, based on the real Queen Charlotte of Mecklenberg-Strelitz. With her is her right-hand man, Brimsley, played by Hugh Sachs. In the photo, Queen Charlotte is reading what appears to be a new issue of the Lady Whistledown Society Papers, that both intrigued and enraged her over the course of the past three seasons. This season, fans will see the love story between the second Bridgerton son, Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).

‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Will Bring a Cinderella-Esque Tale to Life

Bridgerton’s fourth season is based on the third book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton book series: An Offer from a Gentleman. Quinn’s books have taken on tropes with this one being a Cinderella re-telling of sorts, down to the Wicked Stepmother in Araminta Gun (Katie Leung) and falling in love with someone who is not of the same station. In the book, Sophie is enamored with the fact that she’s mentioned in Lady Whistledown as the Lady in Silver and the issue Queen Charlotte is reading in the new image may just be the issue that mentions that. What’s different this time, is that last season, Penelope (Nicola Couglan) was revealed as Lady Whistledown, something that doesn’t happen until after the events of An Offer From a Gentleman in the book series, so it will be interesting to see how that comes into play. In the trailer, Penelope has taken on a bit of the role of crier, giving Queen Charlotte a verbal rundown of the Ton’s latest gossip, but it appears she may still be publishing issues for the rest of High Society London to read.

In addition to Rushevul, Sachs Coughlan, and Thompson returning for Season 4, so are most of the Bridgerton siblings, with the exception of Phoebe Dynevor’s Daphne Bridgerton. The trailer also hinted at the continuation of the love stories between Francesca and John (something that only happened off page in the books) along with more of Season 3 leads Penelope and Colin (Luke Newton). There also seem to be fan-favorite moments included in Season 4, like the lake scene, which fans only hoped might make it after showrunner Jess Bronwell said that Season Four is a “faithful” adaptation.

Bridgerton Season 4, Part 1 premieres January 29. Stay with Collider for the latest updates.
