Star Wars Spin-off ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Releases Trailer, Revealing Battle with Jabba the Hutt’s Son

Star Wars Spin-off Releases Trailer

The spin-off trailer “The Mandalorian and Grogu” reveals the battle between bounty hunter Din Djarin and the son of crime lord Jabba the Hutt.

The trailer for “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is set to premiere domestically on May 22, 2026.

The story takes place after the three seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+, following Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) — a Mandalorian mercenary — who is hired by remnants of the Empire to capture Grogu, a child of the same species as Yoda. However, during their journey, Djarin treats Grogu like his own son and decides to protect him. Together, they embark on numerous adventures and face new enemies.

In the trailer released on September 22, Din Djarin is given a special mission by Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver) — leader of the New Republic — to bring them to the arena of Rotta the Hutt (Jeremy Allen White), son of the notorious crime lord Jabba the Hutt. The two main characters also encounter several alien creatures, including the Babu Frik species from The Rise of Skywalker, Zeb Orrelios from the Star Wars Rebels series, and the war machine AT-AT Walker.

The project is directed by Jon Favreau, written by Dave Filoni, and produced by Kathleen Kennedy. Besides the main cast, the film features Jonny Coyne as an Imperial lord.

The Star Wars franchise, created by George Lucas and launched with the original film in 1977, quickly became a global pop culture phenomenon. The series follows the adventures of characters in a galaxy far, far away, where a mysterious energy called the “Force” governs all things.

The films have achieved both critical and commercial success, winning multiple Oscars. According to Numbers, the total box office revenue has exceeded $10 billion. Despite being a classic Hollywood franchise, the series has faced challenges in recent years due to repetitive storytelling and its inability to build a large fan community in Asia, unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
