Actress Monica Raymund, star of “Chicago Fire,” has passed away at the age of 39 md20

When it comes to Chicago Fire, or any show in the One Chicago universe, you should never get too comfortable with your favorite characters or their relationships. You never know what could happen or change at the drop of a hat, including a character exit or an unexpected breakup. While neither of those things have happened, Severide and Kidd fans likely aren’t thrilled with the latest development.

In Chicago Fire season 14 episode 9, Severide and Kidd reached another fork in the road for their relationship that neither of them saw coming. After Isaiah’s mother wakes up from her coma, she decided to call in a friend to take him in and move him to Cleveland. That means that Severide and Kidd would no longer be his foster parents, which hits Kidd especially hard.

Tensions boil over for the couple on top of everything else they’re going through but also because of what they’re going through. As Kidd managed Isaiah’s change of home from their care in Chicago to Lydia’s in Cleveland, Severide was occupied with the investigation into the fire that leaves Van Meter’s life on the line. By the climax of the episode, Kidd reveals her frustrations with her husband.

Severide and Kidd hit a rough patch after Isaiah’s exit

Isaiah leaving their home is big and sudden loss. They can obviously remain in contact if that’s something Isaiah wants, but it’s still a major blow that happens quickly. He’ll no longer be part of their family, and for the most part, as Kidd expresses to Severide, she handled that transition without him by her side. As much as she understands and believes in what he’s working on, it stings.

Thankfully, Severide was able to say his goodbyes to Isaiah before he leaves for Cleveland. He might have missed a few key moments here and there, but he was there for the big one. However, after watching Isaiah drive away with Lydia, the tension between the couple is apparent. They stand side by side as Kidd cries, but they don’t hug or comfort each other through the pain.

Kidd simply tells Severide that she’s glad he could make it for Isaiah’s farewell, but tells him that she needs to submit her case report to Pascal by the end of shift. With only a light kiss on the cheek, the couple parts. Severide seems surprise at their colder than usual exchange. When he returns home, he’s the one left alone now to take the emotions of seeing Isaiah’s empty room.

Stellaride fans will have to buckle up for the bumpy ride ahead for the couple. Nothing major happened between them, but this loss, on top of Kidd finding out about her pregnancy loss earlier this season, leaves her in an understandably wrought place. If she feels as though her husband wasn’t there for her while they were losing their foster son, she much need time to sort through that.

There’s no telling how long Severide and Kidd will be facing this tension between them or if matters will get worse in the coming episodes. Surely, like any fight between a long-time couple, things will get a little worse before they get better, but there’s no need to worry about them long term. It’s just going to be hard to watch such a stable, beloved couple on different pages for a while.
