The Golden Bachelor alum Faith Martin has revealed she nearly objected at Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s live televised wedding.
In his memoir titled Golden Years: What I’ve Learned from Love, Loss, and Reality TV, Gerry admitted he had vented to Faith the night before his January 4, 2024 wedding that he felt “trapped” into marrying Theresa and it was the “wrong” thing to do.
“I really contemplated being the one that stands up at the wedding and objects. Can you imagine? I wanted to do it so badly, and I thought, ‘My producers will kill me,'” Faith recalled during the Friday, January 16 episode of the “Almost Famous OG” podcast.
Gerry, however, ultimately chose to go through with the live televised wedding on ABC, and then he and Theresa — who had won his The Golden Bachelor season — announced their decision to divorce in April 2024.
“At the wedding, when the cameras are on me and I’m crying, I’m crying for so many reasons. I’m crying because the man I love is marrying a woman that I’m not so sure he loves, yet he’s telling her that he loves her,” Faith explained.
“And [I know] Theresa well enough to know this is never going to work between the two, so those were my feelings going on… But maybe they thought in the moment, ‘We could really make this work.'”
Podcast host and former The Bachelorette star Trista Rehn joked about how Faith’s producers probably would’ve been excited to have such a dramatic objection unfold on TV.
Faith — who finished third on Gerry’s The Golden Bachelor season — went on to share her version of the shocking pre-wedding conversation she had with Gerry.
“He was like, ‘I don’t want to do it. I don’t want to do it.’ And he’s like, ‘I think I got too wrapped up in the moment, and I don’t think I should do it,'” Faith recalled.
“And I was like, ‘Well, don’t do it. Don’t do it.’ He goes, ‘I made my bed. I did this to myself. I got to do it.’ And I’m like, ‘No, you don’t, and you should tell Theresa, and she’s probably feeling the same way. Don’t do it! Don’t do it.'”
But Faith said she didn’t “want to get too involved” in Gerry and Theresa’s relationship.
“I did not sleep for about four days that I was there at The Golden Wedding,” Faith admitted.
“I was trashed because I knew way too much, and I sat up in bed not being able to sleep, and I went, ‘Oh, my god, I am living a soap opera on a TV show, but it’s the real soap opera that’s going on that nobody knows about that is far more disturbing than the little soap opera that I’m in.'”
Faith expressed how the whole event was “so weird.”
Once Theresa found out about Gerry’s “trapped” comments, she told Us Weekly in an October 2025 statement, “It makes me very sad to think that he felt empty and trapped.”
“I wish he had said something and just ended it. But at least now I understand why he was so hurtful to me so many times. And I will say this. Those in glass houses should not throw stones,” she added.
Gerry also repeatedly slammed Theresa and blamed her for their failed relationship in his book.
Gerry claimed Theresa wasn’t willing to quit her finance job in New Jersey for him — when she had allegedly promised she would — and that she wasn’t interested in physical intimacy.
While Theresa tried to take the high road and not reveal specifics about her failed marriage for months, she eventually cracked.
Theresa shared in November 2025 on the “Dear Shandy” podcast, “Overall, Gerry called me names. He criticized me. He put me down. At one point, he said, ‘I don’t want to hear your opinion. I don’t want to hear if you have any other ideas.'”
Theresa alleged there were “so many incidents” of Gerry “having a temper” and “getting mad at things” that she did. She also claimed that he called her “an East coast snob” and once joked about wanting to kill her.
In the aftermath of Gerry and Theresa’s divorce, Faith acknowledged that she’s not going to pick a side.
“I hear Theresa and how she talks about it. I hear Gerry and how he talks about it,” Faith explained to Trista.
“I think both are honestly telling their truth. I think that’s how they perceived it with their own lens, their triggers, what was going on in their lives. It’s a scary, huge thing to go through.”
Faith concluded, “And I love them both, and I think they’re both right, and they’re both true and justified in their feelings.”
Gerry has since moved on and gotten engaged to Indiana-based retired teacher Lana Sutton.
Faith, for her part, looked for love on Bachelor in Paradise’s tenth season last summer. She came up short and is now in a new relationship, which she hard launched in December.
