FANNING THE FLAMES: Station 19 Bosses Ignite Hope for New Season with Talk of Potential New Home for the Canceled Show

STATION 19 showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige have just given fans new hope for the future of the show after its recent cancellation.

ABC canceled the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff in December, and it’s currently set to wrap up in a few weeks with its seventh and final season finale.

Though Station 19 will soon end its run on ABC, fans have been campaigning for the show to be saved.

The series is a spinoff of the long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and follows the lives and careers of the Station 19 firefighters with the Seattle Fire Department.

First premiering in March 2018, the show is currently in its seventh season.

It was announced in December that the show had been canceled and would be ending with Season 7.

Using the hashtag #SaveStation19 on social media, viewers are asking either ABC to reconsider the fate of the beloved show or for another network or streamer to pick up the show.

Now, showrunners Zoanne and Peter are helping to keep hope alive by revealing they, too, would like to see the show continue on and would follow it to any new home.

Netflix has been tossed around as a good place to take the show, as executive producer Shonda Rhimes has a development deal there, but TVLine reports there has been no news yet on Station 19 being shopped around.

“They don’t tell us anything,” Zoanne told the outlet about the possibility of the firefighter drama finding a new home, but she aded that she and Peter will “happily go wherever it goes.”

“We would happily, happily, happily do another season if there were an opportunity to do it,” Peter jumped in to add.

FAN CAMPAIGN

Fans, too, have made it clear to any and all powers-that-be who are listening that they would follow the show to a new home, as well.

“Give #Station19 a new home you won’t be disappointed,” one X (formerly Twitter) user begged.

“Season 7 has been amazing and it would be incredible if we could get 19 a home for another season,” a second fan tweeted.

The online user added, “Its performance despite the time change is a testament to that. If someone can #SaveStation19 we’ll continue to show up.”

The series stars Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason George, Grey Damon, Jay Hayden, Danielle Savre, Boris Kodjoe, Stefania Spampinato, Carlos Miranda, Josh Randall, and Merle Dandridge.

SURPRISE CANCELLATION

New showrunners  Zoanne and Peter revealed they had only just started on the show when they were told about the show’s cancellation.

“We were what, two days into shooting the new episodes?” Zoanne told TVLine. “And we got the call.”

“Basically, we got the news and were like, ‘Get the cast in, get the writers, get the crew assembled,” Peter added, explaining that they wanted to make sure everyone else learned of the news from them.

“We raced, raced, raced to tell them before there were any leaks,” he said.

He added that there was a storyline they wanted to do one the show but realized they had to cut it in order to maximize the final season.

“There was a really complex arson storyline that we’d never done on the show,” Peter said. “We had to say, ‘OK, well, that’s going to be a Season Never story.'”
