Chicago Fire Faces a Power Shift as New Battalion Chief Replaces a Series Regular md18

Dermot Mulroney, who plays Battalion Chief Dom Pascal in Chicago Fire, is departing the show temporarily. A new report reveals that Mulroney will be away from the hit firefighter series for an extended period. His role is being replaced by Rob Morgan, who has been cast as Battalion Chief Hopkins. Mulroney is expected to appear in the upcoming One Chicago crossover in Episode 13 and the subsequent episode before departing. Viewers will be introduced to Chief Hopkins in Episode 16, and he will appear until the season finale.

It’s reported that Dom’s absence is integrated into the story and serves a larger picture that viewers will understand with time. In his absence, Hopkins takes the reins and is quick to exert his power over his colleagues. Like many new Chicago Fire characters, Hopkins has a complicated past in the CFD, notably while overseeing firehouses. It’s unclear when Mulroney will return, especially since the hiatus will bleed into Season 15, which has yet to be ordered.

Mulroney joined the show in 2024 as the replacement for Eamonn Walker, who had departed the series after over a decade playing Battalion Chief Wallace Boden. His character was quick to get the house in line and introduce his leadership style, which was met with initial pushback. However, the character has slowly integrated into the firehouse, and the initial friction has almost been eliminated. Morgan is best known for his work in the Netflix era of Marvel, playing Turk Barrett on shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. He was recently seen on shows like Teacup and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. His other television appearances include Bull, This Is Us, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and Stranger Things.

New episodes of the thrilling drama continue on NBC on Wednesday, and in next week’s episode, Firehouse 51 is in for something special. “Herrmann (David Eigenberg) grows uneasy when a local accident attorney inserts himself into a routine call. Firehouse 51 gets a visitor,” reads the logline for Chicago Fire Season 14, Episode 11, “Frostbite Blues.” The visitor is former firehouse member Sam Carver (Jake Lockett), who departed in the Season 14 premiere and went to Texas. His return is met with a mixture of excitement and uneasiness, given his complicated history with the firehouse and its members. What brings Carver back, and could this return be permanent?
