Carver’s Emotional Return to Chicago Fire Leaves Fans Asking: Is This the End or Just the Beginning? md18

Carver’s reunion with Violet was the moment all Chicago Fire fans have been waiting for on Season 14.

While Chicago Fire fans can rely on Paramedic In Charge Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) to hold down the fort when things turn south, the typically cool-headed first responder was a bundle of nerves as her former flame, Sam Carver (Jake Lockett), returned to the Windy City for a quick visit.

While dozens of firefighters have come and gone on Chicago Fire, saying goodbye to Carver was particularly heartbreaking. After Carver navigated a debilitating alcohol addiction and a turbulent AA process, Carver chose to leave Chicago to start a new chapter in Denver. His move couldn’t have been more ill-timed, as Violet had just come to terms with her feelings for him. Just as the Firehouse 51 flames burned brighter than ever, Carver’s departure snuffed that One Chicago love story.

Carver promised Violet and his colleagues that he’d reunite with them one day, and sure enough, he kept to his word with his arrival in Season 14’s “Frostbite Blue.” But considering the other sparks flying at Firehouse 51, Carver encountered some competition for Violet’s eye.

Violet was happy to welcome Carver to Chicago

After catching wind of Carver’s visit to Chicago, Violet couldn’t help but get nervous to see him again. ICYMI: The last time they saw each other, they kissed and proclaimed they loved each other, but Violet has since revealed that they have maintained no contact due to a standing agreement to allow each other to move on. Needless to say, the baggage is heavy between the former flames.

Violet has kept her distance to support Carver’s ongoing recovery, but when he visited Chicago to expand Violet’s paramedic training program for firefighters in Denver, she was eager to catch up with her old friend. The pair shared a sweet embrace upon seeing each other again, with plenty of tension brimming beneath the surface that Lizzy Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) and Sal Vasquez (Brandon Larracuente) soon noticed.

As Carver settled back at Firehouse 51, it didn’t take long for him to clock the chemistry between Violet and Vasquez. Reverting to his more aggressive ways, Carver couldn’t help but get defensive and corner Vasquez with a stern warning about Violet deserving the best. Vasquez asked Carver if there was a problem between them, realizing the issue was likely his budding romance with Violet.

Despite Carver’s lingering feelings for Violet, his continued distance from Firehouse 51 didn’t pave the way for the most romantic of reconciliations.

Is Carver returning to Firehouse 51 on Chicago Fire?

With Carver in Chicago for only a few days, Lockett temporarily returned to Chicago Fire as a guest star. This means he hasn’t made any plans to return to his former post despite his many friends in the Windy City. Carver paid Firehouse 51 a visit for his final farewells, cornering Violet despite her attempts to evade the goodbye.

“I’m so glad to hear how well everything is going for you, Sam,” Violet said before Carver congratulated her on her exciting strides within the CFD. As their goodbye reached an end, Violet told him, “I guess everything worked out for the best.”

“Yeah,” Carver said, aware of the double-edged nature of Violet’s words. Carver smiled as he bid farewell, but tears welled up in his eyes as he walked away.

With that tearful farewell, it seems that Violet and Carver are committed to charting their own paths, especially with Carver remaining on the other side of the country. While Carver isn’t returning to Firehouse 51 for good, many Chihards are left wondering how this reunion will impact Violet moving forward.

Watch Chicago Fire on Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
