The key cast members, Chris Briney and Lola Tung, are expected to return to Wilmington, North Carolina, this spring for The Summer I Turned Pretty film.
The wait to return to Cousins Beach may finally be over. After months of false alarms and speculation about a 2025 holiday release, The Summer I Turned Pretty is back in the spotlight with a promising new update. The latest reports suggest that Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah could be heading back to the beach much sooner than fans expected.
According to Production Weekly, key cast members Chris Briney and Lola Tung are expected to return to Wilmington, North Carolina, this spring. The report claims filming is set to begin on April 27, which strongly signals the project is no longer in the early development stage. With the script already completed, filming beginning this year could mean a finished feature-length film arriving in 2027.
What’s exciting fans even more is where the movie is being filmed. Wilmington, North Carolina, has always been used as Cousins Beach, which means the story is likely heading back to the beach house. Many viewers missed that setting in season three, as the characters were scattered across different locations. The beach house was where everything began, and returning there feels like the show getting back to its roots.

When Jenny Han Teased The Film’s Idea
Interestingly, this is not the first time the possibility of continuing the story made headlines. Jenny Han herself teased the idea well before the movie news became public. Speaking in Brit + Co’s exclusive interview, she earlier said, “I get asked about [continuing the story] a lot. And I just say like, no, there are no plans for a spinoff or anything at the moment. I think if the right idea came along and everything aligned, then I’ll be so excited to return to the world, and yeah, it’d be great.”
What To Expect
For fans who have followed Belly’s emotional journey from page to screen, a full-length movie offers something a series can’t, and the story is sure to resonate with fans eagerly waiting for the film’s arrival. Besides, the film also opens the door for a cinematic take on the love triangle that continues to divide viewers.
As of now, Prime Video and The Summer I Turned Pretty team haven’t officially commented, but all signs point to pre-production in process. Meanwhile, the series is available on Amazon Prime Video for streaming.
