Before the Hiatus Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 12 Brings Big Drama Without a Cliffhanger md13

Chicago Med always saves the best for last.

Sadly, the medical drama is going on another month-long hiatus because of the Winter Olympics, but at least there was a memorable story to tide us over before the break.

Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 12 combined its usual medical stories with a more gimmicky surgery-in-the-air plot that worked better than most such stories.

Just before jumping on a flight together toward their meeting, Goodwin approached Miranda in an effort to touch base on setting goals for budget cuts. However, it didn’t take long for Miranda’s icy demeanor to clue Goodwin into the fact she wasn’t interested in being on the same page. Miranda didn’t agree with Goodwin’s decision-making and martyr complex around Gaffney, and was done being the only one to make “hard” decisions.

“I see, I’m the budget cut, aren’t I?” Goodwin said. “You’re trying to get rid of me.”

Miranda made a quick excuse, demanding they speak at the meeting while escorting herself away. Despite this troubling update, Goodwin soon grew more concerned about Miranda’s strange behavior on the plane. Goodwin finally confronted Miranda on the matter, learning she was experiencing strange symptoms of weakness after getting into a slow-speed collision on the way to the jet that morning.

Knowing Miranda could be internally injured, Goodwin set aside her resentment and insisted that Miranda undergo an assessment. Sure enough, Goodwin discovered Miranda was internally bleeding from a chest injury and was in desperate need of surgery. After making an urgent call to Gaffney and touching base with Dr. Naomi Howard (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) and giving her an idea of when they’d land, Howard told Goodwin they didn’t have enough time.

Goodwin would need to perform the surgery herself, given the limited supplies on the plane. She explained to Miranda the situation, not agreeing to perform the surgery under Howard’s virtual guidance without her consent.

“Miranda, I know we have had our issues, but I think you also know that I mean what I say, and I’m telling you, I will do everything I can to get you through this,” Goodwin told her, giving Miranda the courage to proceed with the high-stakes and high-elevation surgery.

Is Goodwin going to lose her job at Chicago Med?

Goodwin is a professional under pressure, leveraging her many years of experience to complete the assisted surgery with panache. Considering the effort she put in to saving Miranda, it would be hard to believe she’d still be so eager to see Goodwin terminated from her post. Goodwin was relieved to see Miranda survive, and even more delighted to hear she was showing signs of recovery at Gaffney later on.

Find out what happens to Goodwin next by watching Chicago Med on Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
