Sooner or later, it’s the question every daughter asks: Did you really drink Angelina Jolie’s blood?
Landman star Michelle Randolph says she asked her character’s onscreen dad, Billy Bob Thornton, if those wild tabloid reports from decades ago about him and his ex-wife Jolie were true.
Appearing on Wednesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Randolph was asked what it’s like to work with the Oscar winner.
“Most of my scenes are with him, and I’m thinking, ‘God, like what, all I know is that he drank Angelina Jolie’s blood or something,’” she said, according to People. “Which I since have asked him about.”
In the early 2000s, there was a viral gossip report that Thornton and the Tomb Raider star drank each other’s blood.
Unfortunately, Barrymore seemingly let Randolph off the hook and didn’t press her on exactly what her co-star replied. Instead, Randolph simply described how he reacted to the question.
“He just, I mean, he’s just [at] ease,” she said. “If ease was a person, that’s who he is. That’s why he’s so good at what he does. You think someone with his résumé is going to be so intimidating, but instead, he’s such a great actor because he pulls honesty out of you and he settles you in a scene and in life. I tend to talk a lot and move fast and he just makes me want to just chill.”
Fortunately, Thornton has been asked about the rumor previously — and rather recently. During a Rolling Stone interview in November, Thornton described the report as an exaggeration.
“We each had a little locket, literally with a drop of blood in them,” Thornton said. “That’s a romantic little idea, and that’s all that was. But by the time it’s over, we’re vampires. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other’s blood, and this kind of stuff.”
And of course, Angelina and I had a great time together,” Thornton added. “That was one of the greatest times of my life. She and I are still very, very close friends. And that was the one that ended up being a really civilized breakup. We simply split up because our lifestyles were so different.”
Thornton and Angelina Jolie were married for three years, from May 2000 to 2003, and their coupling sparked a media frenzy at the time.
Randolph is promoting her upcoming movie, Scream 7, which will be released Feb. 27.
Landman has been a major hit for Paramount+ across two seasons, with a third season expected to premiere in November.
