The P.D. family couldn’t be happier to welcome back Upstead in the three-part One Chicago crossover.
As the action-packed One Chicago crossover event approaches, Chicago P.D. fans are buzzing over the return of two One Chicago icons: Detectives Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). And the P.D. stars couldn’t be happier to be back with the Intelligence Unit.
Ahead of Spiradakos and Soffer’s triumphant arrival in P.D.’s three-part crossover with Chicago Med and Chicago Fire, the Intelligence Unit alums took to social media to share some of the cherished highlights from their Season 13 return. For years, the stars stole hearts with Halstead and Upton’s explosive chemistry and push-and-pull partnership, lovingly known among fans as “Upstead.” While Upton and Halstead both left the Windy City in recent seasons, the One Chicago crossover event teases their intense return to Chicago, which is bound to be teeming with awkward confrontations (ICYMI: the couple divorced after Halstead ghosted Upton after his departure, and Upton left to chart her own path not long after).
While the details of Upton and Halstead’s reunion are limited, Spiridakos took to Instagram on February 11 to share a heartwarming selfie from a shoot, with Upstead sitting in the front seat of a police car. “Back at it :)” Spiradakos captioned the post, where both she and Soffer beam from ear to ear.
Chihards are pumped to see Upstead back on Chicago P.D.
Spiradakos’ announcement naturally had Chihards going wild in her comments, many raving over the thrilling return of the franchise fan favorites. “Finally! So happy to see Upstead back together #upsteadforever,” one fan commented as others gushed over how much they’ve missed Upton and Halstead on the squad. Marina Squerciati, who plays Detective Kim Burgess on the NBC nail-biter, felt a little left out on the fun reveal, commenting, “I WAS IN THAT BACK SEAT ALL DAY! COME ON!”

Their P.D. colleagues are just as excited about seeing Spiradakos and Soffer back on the Intelligence Unit beat. Squerciati got to enjoy a nice outing with her P.D. pals, beaming in a selfie she snagged from their night together. In the snapshot, the trio raises wine glasses in celebration of their reunion, looking happy as ever to be back together again.
“Upsteadgess’s BACK! The trio you’ve been waiting for,” Squerciati captioned the sweet Instagram post. “It was so hard keeping our date night a secret, but now the secret’s out!”
In honor of the exciting announcement, Squerciati and LaRoyce Hawkins teamed up with Spiradakos and Soffer on a sketch shared on the One Chicago Instagram. In the video, Burgess and Kevin Atwater interrogate someone off-camera. “You left the scene of the crime. Did you think we wouldn’t find you?” Burgess asks.
“Did you forget that we’re Intelligence?” Atwater continues, handing over a paper of fingerprints to none other than Upton and Halstead, who seem dubious about the cops having anything on them.
As they bicker over the validity of the evidence, Soffer hilariously exclaims, “Lawyer!” The One Chicago stars then break out into a fit of giggles, clearly happy to be back together again. And Chihards won’t want to miss the actual investigation!
Don’t miss Upstead’s triumphant return to the Windy City by watching the three-hour One Chicago crossover, airing on Wednesday, March 4, beginning at 8/7c on NBC. However, unlike typical One Chicago Wednesday lineups, Chicago Fire will lead the cavalry of One Chicago crossover episodes at 8/7c, followed by Chicago Med at 9/8c, and Chicago P.D. at 10/9c on NBC during the typical One Chicago Wednesday block.
