Behind the Corsets: Why a Bridgerton Favorite Might Step Away dt01

Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh has spoken about her future on the Netflix period drama mega-hit, amid rumours that we’ll either be seeing a lot less of Lady Danbury in upcoming episodes, or we won’t be seeing her at all for a while.

Season 4 so far has planted the seeds of speculation, as Danbury and Queen Charlotte’s friendship seemed strained by the power dynamic imbalance between them, and Danbury stated her intention to stop serving as lady-in-waiting.

Appearing on Lorraine this week, Andoh responded to host Lorraine Kelly’s assumption that Danbury wasn’t going anywhere with a potentially concerning comeback.

“Danbury, she needs a sabbatical, let’s say that,” said the star.

While that doesn’t seem to bode well for our favourite former lady-in-waiting, comments made by showrunner Jess Brownell after the first part of season 4 dropped suggest Danbury is definitely part of Bridgerton’s future, even if it’s not the immediate future.

“I want to say very clearly that we have no intentions of Adjoa stepping back. She’s still absolutely a part of the story in season 5,” Brownell said.

She also stated that this story arc is “wanting to explore the dynamic between a friendship in which there’s a power imbalance”.

“It was interesting to explore what happens when Lady Danbury wants to do something for herself,” the showrunner continued. “It was an opportunity to explore new depths for their friendship.”

Another Bridgerton rumour that has been circling lately focuses on Florence Hunt and Will Tilston, and whether they’ll be replaced as Hyacinth and Gregory Bridgerton, respectively.

Julia Quinn, the author of the Bridgerton novels, actually responded to the rumours, offering her thoughts on whether the actors would be the right age to take centre stage by the time show gets around to adapting the novels that focus on their characters.
