Who’s excited for an Upstead reunion?!
For One Chicago fans, it’s not about season premieres or finales — it’s all about the crossover. And Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. are about to deliver.
On Wednesday, March 4, all three shows will combine for a crossover event titled “The Reckoning,” which we know will start when Firehouse 51 is called to an airfield after a passenger jet goes silent mid-air. From there, a bigger mystery unfolds, one that will take us into Chicago Med, until finally, Chicago P.D. will wrap things up as the Intelligence Unit (hopefully) solves the case.
But this year, the crossover isn’t a big deal just because it’s the crossover. It also features two returning faces from Chicago P.D. as Jesse Lee Soffer’s Jay Halstead is back for his first on-screen appearance since season 10 and Tracy Spiridakos’ Hailey Upton returns for the first time since leaving at the end of season 11.

“There’s something about Jay and Chicago that’s always going to be in my DNA,” Soffer, who has also directed a few episodes since leaving the show, tells Entertainment Weekly. “Coming back felt natural. I was excited to see where he is now, and I’m grateful I got the chance to honor how much that character means to me.”
As for how they’re returning, Upton will be working the cast as a special agent of the FBI, joining her former colleagues after a drug enforcement task force case leads her to Chicago. Meanwhile, Jay is in the midst of some deep undercover work that leads him to the same case as his ex.
“Coming back to Chicago feels like coming home,” Spiridakos adds. “I loved getting to see where Hailey has ended up and being reunited with the cast and crew (from all three shows)! It was my absolute highlight. I am thrilled for fans to see our three-hour long adventure, along with an Upstead reunion.”
The three-episode crossover kicks off Wednesday, March 4, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
