‘Game of Thrones’ Showrunners Deserve No Mercy for Bringing Back a Daenerys’ Storyline in Season 7—Only to Ditch It Again md20

Game of Thrones showrunners butchered Daenerys Targaryen’s infertility storyline by bringing it up in season 7 and forgetting about it in season 8!

Game of Thrones. A series that not only hates its audience but also a series where even the creators hate their own series. Sorry, that was a bit harsh, but it does seem that what was once a magnum opus of television shows fell mightily to the Earth.

From convoluted loopholes to storylines that were abandoned mid-way for no reason, that was what was happening in Seasons 7 and 8 of Game of Thrones. Despite being turned into the ruthless dictator of a crumbled King’s Landing, Daenerys Targaryen deserved better.

Game of Thrones showrunners forgot about Daenerys’ children

Based on the books of veteran author George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones debuted with critical acclaim, great ratings, and was on its way to becoming a global cultural phenomenon. However, as time went by and sources dried up, the show’s decline in quality started.

Fans may remember that in Season 1, Daenerys Targaryen was married to Khal Drogo, and together, they had dreamed of a child. However, when the Khal succumbed to his wounds, Dany and a witch made a deal.

Although that deal didn’t work out and Daenerys Targaryen had to kill her husband out of mercy, fans got to learn that Danny cannot have children in her lifetime.

The series distracted the viewers for a while with the three dragons that were eventually born and Daenerys taking control of the states of Essos. However, creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss decided to bring the topic of infertility again in season 7 of the show.

The abandoned storyline of Daenerys and Jon Snow

We know that his real name is Aegon Targaryen. It just feels weird to say it after 6 seasons. However, Daenerys and Jon Snow don’t know this when they start getting intimate with each other during season 7 of the show.

Well, season 7 episode 6 came with a heavy talk between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen about legacy and having children. In that episode, the Mother of Dragons tells Jon Snow that she cannot have children.

As per the show, Dany tells Jon Snow that she is infertile, and Snow asks her, “Who told you that?”. Daenerys Targaryen answers that the witch who murdered her husband (Mirri Maz Duur). Jon ends the convo by saying, “Has it occurred to you she might not have been a reliable source of information?”.

Any person in their right mind would get their hopes up after hearing these lines. Millions of people had expected that the storyline of Dany’s alleged infertility would continue, and eventually, Aegon and Daenerys Targaryen would have children together.

And we would have gotten away with it two if it wasn’t for two meddling creators and their stupid idea to wrap things quickly. Game of Thrones season 8 saw the mental demise of Daenerys Targaryen and the physical demise of King’s Landing and all the chaos. Suffice it to say that Daenerys’ infertility storyline was left abandoned due to unknown reasons.

Despite the curses and hatred that the final season of the show received, Game of Thrones currently stands at a rating of 9.2/10 on IMDb and a whopping 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
