General Hospital Shock: Steve Burton Steps Away Less Than 2 Years After Comeback md13

Jason Morgan won’t be seen around Port Charles for a while.

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, Steve Burton took to Instagram to announce his upcoming hiatus from General Hospital. The actor, 55, revealed the news in a brief message written alongside a photo of himself on set.

“Hey everyone, I wanted to share that I’ll be taking a short break from General Hospital,” he wrote. “I’m newly married and looking forward to spending some quality time with my family. I’m grateful for all the support and will be back this summer.”

“Much luv -sb,” he concluded

Burton tied the knot with wife Michelle Lundstrom in an intimate beachfront wedding in May 2025, just four months after the couple announced their engagement. They met the year prior and confirmed their relationship in May 2024 during an interview on Daily Drama.

“Honestly, I’ve never felt so loved and cared for in my entire life,” Burton previously told PEOPLE of his bride. “I’m incredibly grateful to have her by my side. She is the most amazing, beautiful and selfless woman I’ve ever known. I love her so much.”

The soap star was previously married to Sheree Gustin, but they split in 2022 following more than 20 years of marriage. Burton announced their separation after Gustin shared she was “expecting her 4th child,” which the soap star confirmed was not his. They two share daughters Makena and Brooklyn, along with son Jack.

Lundstrom — a cook and content creator best known for her appearance in Netflix’s Barbecue Showdown — also has children from a previous relationship: daughters Lilah and Hannah.

Burton has a long history with General Hospital. He first joined the daytime series as Jason in 1991 and remained in the role until exiting in 2012. He returned in 2017 but was ultimately let go in 2021 over his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Burton went on to rejoin the cast of Days of Our Lives in 2023, playing Harris Michaels for the first time since 1988. One day after announcing his exit from the beloved show in January 2024, he revealed his plans to return to General Hospital later that year.

Over the past few decades, Burton has made his mark on several other soaps as well, starring on The Young and the Restless and the DOOL spinoff, Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem.

In 1998, Burton won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Jason on General Hospital, and in 2017, he took home another Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for playing Dylan McAvoy on The Young and the Restless.
