The 2026 One Chicago crossover raises the bar to deliver the franchise’s best crossover event to date!
When the annual One Chicago crossover rolls around each year, I always wonder how the Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD creative teams will manage to raise the stakes from the previous crossover. Having watched every crossover since the very beginning of the franchise’s run, I should know better than to question the One Chicago team’s capabilities, as this year’s crossover might just be the best one yet.
The “Reckoning” crossover begins when a passenger jet goes radio silent mid-air on its way to Chicago. After losing communication with the plane, the FBI is called, and it’s not long after that Firehouse 51 is called in for backup. Heading into the crossover, we were promised that the discovery on the airfield would crack open a bigger and deadlier mystery, which could put countless lives in jeopardy. Well, the crossover absolutely delivers upon this promise.
From start to finish, the “Reckoning” crossover event will have fans sitting on the edge of their seats, trying to catch their breath as the writers take us on quite an emotional rollercoaster ride. There are unexpected twists, surprise returns, and emotional moments that are sure to have a ripple effect beyond the crossover, which is honestly what makes this crossover so successful. It doesn’t feel like a one-off event but rather one that will stick with the characters for a multitude of reasons and have repercussions rather than being a self-contained bottle episode event.
As we saw with last year’s “In the Trenches” crossover, the writers do an amazing job of bringing the casts of the three shows together in a way that leads to some unexpected and fun pairings. There’s one particular Chicago Med character who plays a pivotal role in the crossover in a manner that is brilliant and allows them to step outside the hospital to use their unique background to help with the investigation. We also get to dive further into the pasts of two key characters, leading to a pair of incredible performances from the stars behind the beloved duo.
Speaking of beloved duos, there is no doubt that the highlight of the 2026 One Chicago crossover event is getting to see Tracy Spiridakos and Jesse Lee Soffer back as Upton and Halstead. From the moment it was announced that the pair would be returning, we were immediately excited to see how the show would bring them back into the fold and to witness the pair back in action.
For anyone worrying that this return is more of a quick cameo from the pair, you will be thrilled to know that the pair play a major role in the crossover! The writers took full advantage of Spiridakos and Soffer’s return by crafting a storyline that put them front and center. The chemistry between Spiridakos and Soffer is just as magnetic as fans will remember, and the crossover will certainly leave you wanting more from the pair while also giving Upstead fans some closure they’ve been desperately seeking.
As a whole, the “Reckoning” crossover once again proves that when it comes to crossovers, no one does it better than One Chicago. The 2026 crossover event is the franchise’s best crossover yet and is hands down the biggest television event of the season, one that no One Chicago fan will want to miss. Trust me, the writers outdid themselves this year.
