Key Points
- #OneChicago crossover event airs March 4, starting with Chicago Fire at 8 p.m.
- Story centers on a passenger jet emergency leading to a deadly mystery.
- Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos return as Halstead and Upton for the crossover.
When the #OneChicago shows return from their 2026 Winter Olympics hiatus on March 4, it will be with a special crossover night of episodes, titled “The Reckoning,” and the broadcast order will flip. The night will begin with Chicago Fire moving into the 8 p.m. timeslot, followed by Chicago Med and then Chicago P.D. wrapping up the night.
The night will begin with Firehouse 51 responding to an emergency call from an airfield when a passenger jet suddenly goes silent mid-air, and then the action plays out from there. That said, the feel of the three-hour event is more like a movie as it is totally integrated.
“I think that was the idea from the jump of this one,” Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman exclusively tells Parade. “We’ve had an almost traditional format for the crossover, where it starts with Fire. This year, we wanted to approach it differently and keep it as integrated as possible, so you wouldn’t really know which one you were watching at any time. They put the names up, like this is Fire, this is Med, this is P.D. But Upton’s [Tracy Spiridakos] in it within two minutes and you know right away. We just thought that would be a cool new way to make a three-hour movie and that’s what we did.”
Here’s everything we know about the latest #OneChicago crossover to date.
When does the #OneChicago crossover event come out?
The #OneChicago crossover event will premiere on Wednesday, March 4.
What time does the #OneChicago crossover event come on?
The one-night Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med crossover event will begin airing at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
What is the story for the #OneChicago crossover event?
The official logline for the night reads: “Firehouse 51 is called to an airfield when a passenger jet suddenly goes silent mid-air, triggering a high-stakes emergency. Their discovery cracks open a bigger and deadlier mystery — one with consequences that could ripple far beyond the runway and put countless lives in jeopardy.”
Who is in the cast of the #OneChicago crossover event?
Making the night even more special is the return of Jesse Lee Soffer and the aforementioned Spiridakos to their Chicago P.D. roles – Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton, respectively — for the occasion.
Deadline was the first to report the return of the duo, sharing this official description: Upton “returns to her former stomping grounds, but this time on the federal level as a Special Agent of the FBI. She joins her former P.D. allies after a drug enforcement task force case out of her Detroit field office leads her back to Chicago.”
It will turn out that Halstead has “been deep undercover, leading him on a path to the same case that Upton is investigating,” so it will give fans a chance to see the former married couple reunited after their on-screen breakup.
When Parade spoke to Chicago P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan, she told us, “I think it was Peter Jankowski‘s idea first, to bring some legacy characters back, who could we bring? Of course, Halstead and Upton, to have them both come at the same time would be really exciting. We hadn’t seen them on screen together in quite a while and once we got more into story and our writers were circling what is this going to be about, and it’s going to be about the past, it’s going to be about choices you make and the consequences that come from them, it felt like it made sense for the pair of them, it made sense for how they left things. To have them both come back and, hopefully, through this case and through all of these sustained events of the crossover for them to have some sort of reckoning with what happened between the two of them, it felt like a perfect fit.”
