Chicago Med Fans Are Curious: Who Plays Frost’s Parents and What’s Their Story md13

Chicago Med has just been shaken up yet again, and Dr. John Frost (Darren Barnet) is feeling the pressure upon the shocking reunion with his parents, Celeste (Tamlyn Tomita) and James (David Costabile).

Ever since his Season 10 arrival on Chicago Med, Frost has stolen hearts with his magnetic charm and infallible commitment to his patients, and he boasts a mighty backstory. Long before becoming a doctor, Frost was a child actor on a hit sitcom, but he looks back on his television tenure with disdain, largely due to the family drama that surrounded his five minutes of fame. Chihards finally got to peel back the curtain on Frost’s storied history with his parents in Season 11 of Med after his parents flocked to the Windy City in hopes of reconnecting with their estranged son.

Learn more about Frost’s parents and the actors who play them, below.

Frost’s complicated history with his parents, Celeste and James Frost

Chihards first met John Frost’s parents in Season 11, Episode 12 “Spill Your Guts,” but they didn’t receive the warmest of welcomes after being reunited with their son at Gaffney. Since first meeting Frost in Season 10, viewers soon discovered that he had an estranged relationship with his parents after they financially abused him back during his sitcom days as a child actor. Frost’s parents were so financially exploitative that they eventually bankrupted Frost, leading him to cut ties with his parents and pivot careers. Frost became a doctor to help advocate for children in a way he didn’t feel he received growing up, valuing a child’s agency and decisions while providing steadfast care.

However, a wrench was thrown in Frost’s happy harmony after his mother and father made their way to the Windy City to reconnect with their son. Frost was cold upon meeting his mother again, assuming that she was only in Chicago to further financially exploit him. While Frost was keen to brush away his parents’ attempts at mooching, Celeste insisted that their visit wasn’t financially inspired; they just wanted to see their boy again.

It took Frost quite a while to warm up to the idea of spending time with his family again, eventually visiting the hotel where he knew they were staying and learning they lived in an RV in the hotel’s parking lot. After the monthly checks and royalties ended, Frost’s parents were forced to sell their house and downsize.

Wanting to normalize spending more time together, Celeste and James invited Frost to join them on a little family road trip, an offer that Frost initially turned down. However, after thinking about it, he decided to give his parents the benefit of the doubt and reforge their connection.
