What Is Egg’s Real Identity in A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms?
Egg is the fifth child of Prince Maekar Targaryen and Dyanna Dayne, to be exact, whose full name is Prince Aegon Targaryen.
That shaved head? It’s hiding his silver Targaryen hair. His older brother Daeron originally shaved it so their father’s men wouldn’t find him and drag him back home. Now, Egg’s out here pretending to be nobody, learning what life is actually like for regular people in Westeros. This takes place around 209 AC, about 90 years before Game of Thrones starts. The Targaryens still rule from the Iron Throne. Dragons are dead and gone, but the family name still carries weight.
Egg eventually becomes King Aegon V Targaryen, also called “Aegon the Unlikely.” Why unlikely? Because he was a fourth son of a fourth son. Nobody thought he’d ever get anywhere near that throne. But family members died, circumstances changed, and suddenly this wandering prince became one of Westeros’ most beloved rulers.
His older brother Aemon was shipped off to the Citadel as a kid to become a maester. Later, he joined the Night’s Watch and gave up all claims to power. If you watched Game of Thrones, you’ve met him: Maester Aemon at Castle Black.

Egg is connected to Daenerys by Direct bloodline. Egg is Daenerys Targaryen‘s great-great-grandfather. The family tree goes: Aegon V to his son Jaehaerys II, then to Aerys II (the Mad King), and finally to his children Rhaegar, Viserys, and Daenerys. Every time you’re watching Egg on screen, you’re watching Dany’s ancestor. He’s the foundation of her entire claim generations later.
Egg also connects to House of the Dragon as the great-great-great-grandson of Queen Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon. So this boy links all three shows together through blood. Think about how different these two Targaryens are. Egg spends his youth on the road with Dunk, sleeping rough and seeing how knights and lords treat common folk. That shapes him into a reform-minded king.
Daenerys grows up in exile, dreaming of dragons and destiny. Same family, same ideals about justice, but completely different lives. Watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms hits different when you know Egg’s story eventually leads to Dany trying to reclaim everything his line lost.
