It was a choice that divided a fanbase: Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Back in 2008, when the pop culture phenomenon known as Twilight began its world domination, the film’s stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner were pitted against each other, both onscreen (in the battle for Bella’s heart) and off, as fans also picked sides.
Eighteen years later, it still haunts Pattinson.
While in Paris promoting The Drama, a reporter for France’s Canal+ brought up the age-old question to his co-star Zendaya. “I’m Team Edward all day, let’s go,” she replied, without hesitation.

The reporter then posed the question to Pattinson, who immortalized vampire Edward Cullen in all five Twilight films. “No one’s Team Jacob,” he quipped, waving his hand for effect. “That was just a marketing thing.”
But it was a real allegiance to the female reporter. “I was,” she told Pattinson, who rolled his eyes playfully. “Sorry.”
It’s not the first time someone has admitted to Pattinson’s face they weren’t Team Edward.
While promoting Die My Love with Jennifer Lawrence in 2025, the two quizzed each other about their respective film franchises — in her case, The Hunger Games.
“Team Edward or Team Jacob?” Pattinson asked. Lawrence took a moment to ponder, and then delivered the news gently. “In the books, Jacob,” she confessed. “In the movie, Edward.”
Pattinson himself wasn’t always Team Edward. While promoting New Moon in 2009, he told OK! magazine: “You always get weirdos like Edward who seems to attract women for some reason. If Edward wasn’t a fictional character and you met him in reality, he is like one of those guys who would probably be an ax murderer or something”
