Fans have been eagerly wondering how the rest of the Reagans in New York City are faring since Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) started his new life in Boston. After twelve episodes of Boston Blue, followers of Blue Bloods finally received a delightful update on at least two familiar faces: Eddie Janko-Reagan (Vanessa Ray) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes). The reveal comes in the “St. Patrick’s Day” episode, when Danny receives an unexpected text from his offscreen sibling.
The text contains a photo showing Jamie and Eddie’s infant son wearing a onesie that reads, “Joey Francis’s First St. Patrick’s Day.” It marks the first time fans have seen the Janko-Reagan child. While this heartwarming reveal is sure to thrill viewers, it also intensifies Danny’s homesickness as the most Irish of holidays — famously celebrated by the Reagans with a memorable dinner in Season 12 of Blue Bloods — approaches.
Fans will remember that Eddie announced her pregnancy in the series finale of Blue Bloods, during the final Reagan family feast. Until now, viewers never received an update on how the pregnancy progressed, but the new glimpse shows that Jamie and Eddie are happily navigating first-time parenthood.
The child’s name carries special significance. “Joey” is likely short for Joseph, honoring the Reagans’ late uncle Joe Reagan, who tragically died in the line of duty before Blue Bloods began. Joe’s death has influenced many storylines on the series, from cases left behind to the arrival of his secret son, Joe Hill (Will Hochman). The surname “Francis” likely pays tribute to Jamie and Danny’s father, Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), whose full name is Francis Xavier Reagan — the no-nonsense New York police commissioner and loving patriarch revered by his children.
As for meeting little Joey in person, or seeing Jamie and Eddie face-to-face on Boston Blue, co-creator Brandon Margolis remains tight-lipped. “Obviously, there were a lot of [Reagans], but the invitations are extended, and we are just looking for the right stories to bring them into Danny and Sean’s world,” he told TV Insider. “That’s kind of all I can say at the moment without spoiling too much.”
However, fans can look forward to another Reagan family visit soon: patriarch Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) is set to appear in Episode 13, bringing even more of the iconic clan into Danny’s Boston life.
