Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling’s (Masali Baduza) Season 5 storyline will be filled with family drama. Netflix announced Bridgerton Season 5 will star three new cast members taking on the roles close to the main characters.
According to Bridgerton’sofficial X account, the new season will introduce actors Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain, and Gemma Knight Jones. Fans will be on the edge of their seats as their characters will be the son of Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis), the mother of Michaela, alongside one of her closest allies.
In previous seasons of Bridgerton, it was revealed that Lord Anderson is a widower with his children having already left the nest and grown up. Bridgerton Season 5 appears not to be done with the Anderson family, as Christopher Anderson is being described as “a Regency-era Casanova who could give the Bridgerton bachelors a run for their money. Yet behind his cheeky facade lies a present of self-doubt that threatens to unravel him. The son of Lord Anderson will make his mark on society, one way or another…”
Alexander is an up-and-coming actor who has played roles in Netflix’s The Sandman and in the popular series MobLand for two episodes. He also plays a role in the series Red Eye.
As Francesca and Michaela’s storyline will unfold in the next season, fans will be introduced to more of her and John’s family. Boatswain will play the new role of Michaela’s mother and John’s aunt, Helen Stirling. Her inclusion in the season will surely bring more depth to Michaela’s storyline and how her own mother sees her love journey with Francesca. Fans can also expect the two characters to address John’s death.
For the new season, Helen is “Michaela’s mother and the very source of her spirit. Like any mama, she seeks to guide — and occasionally push — her daughter through London’s social season, with equal measures vivaciousness and tough love.”
Boatswain is largely known for British roles, appearing in Agatha and the Midnight Murders, After the Flood, and starring in The Sandman as Prime Minister Zewde.
Rounding out the new cast is Mobland actor Gemma Knight Jones. She will join Bridgerton Season 5 as Michaela’s dear friend Lady Elizabeth Ashworth. Based on her character description, she’s “an old friend of Michaela’s who serves as her confidante and London guide.” Per Netflix, “Beneath Elizabeth’s playful charm lies a grounded realist who is wise to the unspoken rules of society.”
Bridgerton Season 5 will explore the series’s first main LGBTQ love story, following the events of the fourth season. After a two-year time jump, Francesca re-enters the marriage mart as Michaela returns to London.
