ABC has made a decision about the future of “Grey’s Anatomy.
The medical drama has been renewed for season 23, Variety confirmed on Monday, March 30. The news comes days after Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver announced their exits from the show.
McKidd has played trauma surgeon Owen Hunt since season 5. Raver joined the cast as Teddy Altman during season 6. She previously left “Grey’s Anatomy” at the end of season 8 but returned during season 14.
The season 22 finale, which is set to air on May 7, will be McKidd and Raver’s final episode.

McKidd and Raver’s characters Owen and Teddy got married during season 18 and then divorced earlier this season. Series creator Shonda Rhimes suggested the duo will reconcile before leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital behind.

“Over the years, we have had the privilege of watching Owen and Teddy’s love story evolve and deepen — two characters who always seem to find their way back to each other. It is both bittersweet and joyful to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves,” Rhimes said in a statement shared with Variety.
In statements of their own, McKidd said he is “deeply grateful” for his time on “Grey’s Anatomy,” while Raver said that Teddy “will always hold a dear and special place in my heart.”
“Grey’s Anatomy,” which premiered in 2005, has a long history with cast exits. The only remaining original cast members are Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber). Among the non-original cast members, McKidd has been around the longest.
