What Robert Pattinson Did in “The Drama” Has Twilight Fans in Total Meltdown tpa1

If you haven’t seen The Drama yet, have no fear, this is a fairly spoiler-free space.
A person with a serious expression is partially obscured by a bridal veil, capturing a sense of introspection or contemplation

Even if you haven’t caught the A24 film that is probably the absolute worst date night pick in Hollywood history, you’ve likely heard that it’s got people talking and feeling a whole lot of things.

Plot aside, Robert Pattinson and Zendaya’s chemistry as a couple is electric.

For longtime fans of Robert, his role as a bashful loverboy is calling to mind the brooding romantic angel that is Edward Cullen of the Twilight franchise.

For those who want a completely spoiler-free experience, feel free to click out of this story now. I won’t be offended, I’m strict about spoilers, too!
I have to admit I haven’t watched any of the Twilight movies in over a decade, but my parasocial love of Edward jumped OUT in unexpected ways thanks to a particular scene in The Drama.
Person with a gentle smile looks at another person in a dimly lit setting. Intimate and focused atmosphere HBO Max Charlie (Robert) whispers into Emma’s ear (Zendaya), and tells her how much he truly loves her. He whispers, “I love you so much it hurts.” Sound familiar, #TeamEdward?
Two people sitting close on a bed in a cozy room, one comforts the other, who appears thoughtful. Bookshelves and a window are in the background
He continues to propose to Emma in the ear that she can’t hear from, due to an injury (the movie gets into those details later on).
Of course, my hopeless romantic self instantly thought of this scene from the first Twilight movie:
Two people lean in closely with their foreheads touching, eyes gently closed, creating an intimate and tender moment HBO Max

It’s one of the most tender scenes I long for in romance films and books, but haven’t seen executed so lovingly in ages. And with the collective sounds of awws at the theater when I watched The Drama, I think it was the same for many.

As soon as I left the theater, I had to scroll on social media to see how my fellow R-Patz fans were doing after that scene, and I soon realized all of the Twilight “gang gang” was with me: We couldn’t help but think of one Edward Cullen.
